Probably not after re-reading his posts while comparing to my timelines. Maybe a cousin connection, but while the names are similar not enough detail to make a match. The Irish always reuse the same generational name patterns and this leads to so many hopeful but ultimately failed connections. My Gatins line usually names first born John, the McFadden use Charles and so on.  Also gets fun when they all marry women with same first name. Had a PA marriage certificate I thought was for my grandfather, John Gatins marrying Mary Muldoon, till I studied it more carefully and the age of the John Gatins was off and they both had the wrong names for the parents. I appear to have two or three contemporaneous John Gatins in Johnstown PA all born within five years of each other, at least two of which married Marys.
Sorry this is such a long winded response when a simple "No" would have sufficed  :)

The Tyrone/Armagh discrepancy on Dungannon concerned me years ago and had forgotten about it till you pointed it out again. As you point out it is possibly a proximity issue. The source was a letter from their daughter's religious order providing her bio info they had on record, it listed the birthplace of her parents as Dungannon, Armagh. I took that as their preferred county of origin and have been misrepresenting the geography without explanation since. Thank you for reminding me that accuracy is critical in this area.
Have not had much luck with the parish records, there are Wards and Muldoons everywhere and no way to link them with the available on line records. Found some possible links via the DNA tests to relatives in Pennsylvania, but there was some family drama years back I do not know the details on, but my Muldoon grandmother is buried in a different cemetery than my Gatins grandfather.

I do not know if this will help, but you might want to broaden your search outside of Donegal. My great-grandmother was Mary Jane Ward (b) 1836 in Dungannon, Armagh. She married Joseph Muldoon also of Dungannon. They emigrated to Pennsylvania sometime prior to the birth of their son James in 1862.

According to Ancestry DNA, we are 4th cousins and appear to share the McFadden branch of our trees. That would indicate we share the 3X grandparent,  on my branch that is Patrick Mc Fadden Sr. 1770–1862 Roshin, Donegal, Ireland. 2nd great-grandfather Patrick Mc Fadden jr.
1806–1876 Roshin, Donegal, Ireland, married a Bridget, birth name unknown My great  grandfather was Charles T. McFadden 1860–1933, married to Julia Gallagher. My grandmother Mary Alice (1880-1961) and the bulk of her siblings emigrated at the turn of the century to NY and Philadelphia areas. The records all refer to Roshin but they all said they were from Dunfanaghy.

All of my family is from the north of Ireland, Donegal and Leitrim. The accents have led to many different spellings over time. Gatins/Gatkins/Gettins/Giddens/Gethins/Gatlins/ amd my favorite Gatino have all shown up on family records. McCool is a northern name as well. Never researched a Gillespie so no clue on them. Good Luck.

If she is a Gatins then Donegal is our home county. Gethins and Gittens show up in Scotland quite a lot. Root name of family was McGettigan. Couple of notes to be aware of: First born male always seems to be named John and they all seemed to marry a Mary. My line came to US via emigration to Southern US around 1854 and came north to Pennsylvania during the Civil War, finally settling in Johnstown PA. Other Gatins came to NY post 1865 and again early 1900's. Southern Gatins settled in and around Atlanta and also had a branch move up to NY over time. They are the rich relatives. Gatins settled in NY PA Ohio Georgia and Canada, heading west after Civil War and again after WWI. In Donegal I found most around Donegal city and nearby townships but cannot prove relationships due to gaps in emigration and immigration records. Good Luck.
