Hi all
Just joined rootschat as I was searching for info on coopers. My great great grandfather was a wine cooper in Bermondsey, as was his father, his brother and a few other relatives. Having looked at old maps of Bermondsey & Southwark around 1841 I see quite a lot of cooperages and am trying to find anything which may lead me to where he worked. There was also the Courage brewery at Rotherhithe, so it's going to take a lot of digging.
His name was Thomas Scarbrough, his brother was William and their father was also Thomas. Nothing I have mentions a master cooper or journeyman.
I have read through some of your posts and taken note of suggestions so to those who made them, thanks in advance.
