I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on the photographer who took this photograph? It's of a family which are of no relation to me but I would be interested to know more about who took it and when.

I'm researching a family tree for a friend and have hit a brick wall with her great grandfather William H Hillman. I know that he lived in Barry South Wales from 1901 onwards but can't seem to find him anywhere before that. The 1901 census says that he was born in 1873 but the 1911 census gives his date of birth as 1882. Both records give his place of birth as Hull Yorkshire but I can't seem to find him there. I did however find another William H Hillman who lived in Hull on the 1891 census who seems like a possible candidate for his father. He was born in Bristol in 1839 and seems to be married to an Elizabeth. I did also find him on the 1871 census living with Elizabeth in London but as that was on ancestry I could not look at the record. I tried to find the record on find my past but had no luck. I haven't had luck on any of the other censuses so if anyone could help me that would be really great.

Thanks Carys

Hello,
I'm not the best at reading old handwriting so I can't quite read what it says but you might be able to so here's a close up picture.

I have done some research into Davine Sinclair and had found her on the census living with her Aunt and Uncle who were Lily and George Irving. Davine Sinclair died a spinster in 1958 aged 60 in Cirencester. The name Gordon does sound more Scottish than Welsh but as Davine lived in Barry I thought that he might be from Wales. On the back of the photo he declares his love for Davine and I am interested to see if I can discover anything to tell me what may have happened between them and what happened to Gordon.

Hello,

I found your post while searching rootschat and thought you might be interested in seeing this postcard. The postcard reads; Pte Molineux no 1 co BEF. Dear Nell. Back in same old place. Quite well. Fond Love Daddy. Sent to a Miss N Molineux 32 Romilly Road Barry near Cardiff S Wales. It was sent in October 1916.

Hello,

I found this photo amongst other items in a scrapbook belonging to a Davine Sinclair who lived in Barry during the early 1900's. The only thing I know about the photo is that the man's name is Gordon and that it was given to Davine in 1921. I would like to find out who he was so I can do some research.

Any information would be very appreciated.

As it turns out the Michael Lyons that had been born in Cardiff in 1893 sadly died that same year so the Jarrow one looks as if it may be the right person.

Thanks for your help

The witnesses were not people who had the surname Lyons so I didn't think that they were from his family although it could be a possibility. Michael Lyons' job in 1921 was a stevedore.
