sonoftom; Hello again, thanks for the quick reply.   After this message I will use your email.
My email is maureena@dezzanet.net.au
How unbelievable that you were in touch with my great aunts years ago - you probably know more about the family than I do! and yes, it is Sylvia Pink that I'm in touch with, in fact she mailed the family chart that I've worked from.  She obtained it from a member of the werndly family in the UK and it has been of great help to me since I started genealogy 2 years ago.  The chart has your family on it - from Catherine/Henry - Rhoda/Robert Thompson - Norman Werndly Thompson which I suspect may be yourself??
I will explain May Eleanor's various 'names' when I email you, so will be in touch in the next few days.
Nice to hear from you Christina - your message certainly explained a lot.  It seems there was quite a liaison going on above the furnitue shop!  One of the certificates that I have is of the marriage between Caroline and Joseph but I haven't sent for Richard & Esthers marriage cert. so will be very interested to hear all about it when you finally get it.
I have a suggestion: if you feel comfortable about giving me your email address we could  c.c. emails between the three of us so that we keep each other informed of any new snippets of information.
Have a Great Easter both of you.  Maureen

sonoftom: in answer to your query re my mother's birth.
b. 1917 Paddington North, London as Vera Doreen Futcher.
Her mother (my grandmother) was May Eleanor Futcher (married name) and was the daughter of Richard Andrew Werndly & Ada Phoebe Parsons.
Richard & Ada's children were: Edith Esther1905, George1902, Hilda Mary1901, Alfred William 1899, Edward Frank1896, Frederick Richard1893, May Eleanor1895.
I am in touch with Alfred's daughter, Sylvia in the UK who sent some interesting correspondence re the change of Werndly name. All Richard's children on their birth certificates are Werndlys.  It is known that Alfred, Edie and May attended school under the surname of Bourne - but when Alfred married and also went into WW1 he was a Werndly.  Later he officially changed his name in 1962 to Bourne.  Work that one out!!
On my mother's birth certificate my grandmother is down as May Eleanor Futcher formerly Bourne! but on her death certificate her maiden name is Werndly!
On the chart that I have it shows John Conradus Werndly as Johan Konrad Werndli with a brother named Jakob 1645-1730 and their father as Hans Jakob Werndli 1623-1693.  It looks like Hans had a twin brother named Thomas. You may already have this info.   I'd be more than happy to give you my email address if you wanted to share more info on the Werndly family records otherwise I hope we might keep in touch through this message board .
Christina if you're still interested in keeping in touch I'd like to hear more about your side of the family.
Regards Maureena

I've just returned from a holiday and found replies from what seems to be some Werndly relatives - how exciting.  I haven't had time to thoroughly digest all the information but briefly looking at the chart I have it appears we all go back to William Werndly & Eleanor Harwood.  My Grandmother was May Eleanor Werndly (b. 8.3.1895, daughter of Richard Werndly(b. 1859) and Pheobe Ada Parsons (b. 1869 d. 1948).  It appears that my grandmother and her siblings were Werndly at birth (I have all their  birth certificates) but attended school under the name of Bourne and on my own mother's (Vera Doreen Futcher) birth certificate May Eleanor is known as a Bourne , not Werndly.  So there appears to be some mystery surrounding the reasons there!!and so far I haven't located what the mystery was. It appears that William Werndly (b. abt 1768)'s mother and father were a William & Elizabeth but I know little else about them.
The chart I have goes back to 1423 -Switzerland but is only partially complete.  However I have located a John Conradus Werndly (b. 1656 d.1724) who changed his name from Johan Konrad Werndli when he went from Switzerland to England and became vicar of Wraysbury in 1690.  Another member of our Swiss ancestors went to live in Holland therefore starting a Dutch connection.
However so far I can't find the connection between William Werndly  who married Elizabeth and our Swiss connection.
Sonoftom: Appreciate your info of February 28 about John Conrad and also March 20.  I'm very interested in your connection particularly between Catherine and way back to John Werndly as that is  part of my chart that is missing. I have Frederick John (b. 1850,  married to Catherine Branen and I believe your maternal grandmother was their child.  Was Frederick John the son of Frederick (abt 1830) and Mary Hall?  If correct who was Frederick's father - was it John (b. 1792)?
Great to be in touch with extended family members!

Great to get your info re my John Conradus Werndly. .  I know that some Werndly's were of Swiss & Dutch origin.
Do you have any info about his family ?
My direct line stems from William Werndly c: 1768 married to Eleanor Harwood in 1790 - children Alexandra, Martha/Rebecca (twins), Caroline and Richard (my direct descendant).  I think William's father was also William. His mother was Elizabeth.  Apart from that I'm stuck!  There seems to be a connection  between the John Conradus Werndly b:1656 d:1724 and Willam who married Elizabeth but I haven't found the connection yet.  Have you any info you could share and are you related in some way?  Thanks so much for your reply - I hope we stay connected. Maureen

I haven't known anyone else who's researching the Werndly history so would love to keep in touch
