The John Rosser who was apprenticed to a shipwright in Bristol in 1784 appears to have died between 1788 and 1790, after his father wrote his will but before his father died. His family came from the Forest of Dean. So it is quite likely that the other John Rosser is unconnected and was native to Pembrokeshire.

Thanks David

It appears that Ann Rosser married a Thomas Richards in 1842 (address still Sergeant Street, father John Rosser carpenter.) In the 1851, 61 and 71 censuses they're in Bedminster  and her birthplace is given as Pembroke or Pembrokeshire.  In 1881 she's shown as from Taunton and her husband from Pembroke, which is presumably an accidental switch.

So it seems very likely that the Martha that Trish found in 1813 is from the same family, and that they lived in Pembrokeshire for several years. Other possible children are John in 1817 and Benjamin in 1822, baptised at Cosheston. There was a marriage of John Rosser and Sarah Davies in 1812 at St Petrox, Pembrokeshire.

David

Yes, it seems like the family moved from Pembrokeshire to Bedminster 1822-26

Ages over 16yrs on the 1841 census were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs so Sarah could have been between 46 & 49

www.freebmd.org.uk  GRO online shows age as 51

Deaths Dec 1841
ROSSER    Sarah Bedminster    11   47

Possible marriage for daughter Sarah to one of the following males

Marriages Dec 1844
ROSSER    Sarah         Bedminster    11   84

ADAMS    William Rice
HOWARD    Thomas
NEWMAN    George
WOOLSWORTH    George

Sarah dies 6 Oct 1841 Sargent St Bedminster (same address as 1841 Census).

She is noted as a widow.

So John likely dies between Jan 1829 (Benjamin's baptism) and Jun 1841 (Census).

Thanks again for your help.

The 1861 Census is a mystery for all of Rachel, JB and Ann. I'll keep looking!

Where would I purchase Ann's will from?

Confirming Rachel's death certificate has the right age and notes she is the widow of John Robinson

Daughter Sarah was buried 1 April 1827 aged 9 months  St Mary Redcliffe - Of Bedminster.
Yes, I think this is the daughter Sarah (9mths old on the Burial c era).

I think I will need to order the 1841 death certificate to see if it is Sarah Snr (it is late 1841, so after the Census she appeared in)

Benjamin who was born 1 December 1828 Bristol Somerset received his Masters and Mates Certificate 17 May 1851.
Yes, thank you.

I have a fair bit of info on Benjamin and virtually nothing on his parents and siblings.

Benjamin married in 1854. His marriage certificate just mentions his father is John who is a shipwright
