Devon / Re: Help researching Devon Brig captains 1800s

Thank you for your reply. I am beginning to wonder whether Richard Parminter embelished his employment as a Brig Captain/Master Mariner so that he could marry Elizabeth Richards. Seems I will have to pause this research and carry on with subsequent ancestors in the book, many of which were called Richard  ::)

Devon / Help researching Devon Brig captains 1800s

I'm researching my wife's family tree and specifically the Parminter family. I have discovered the following in the Gloucester Journal December 1805 ... 'Swansea St.Mary Capt. Parminter of the brig "Mary" married Miss Richards of Swansea'. My wife's 4th Gt.Grandparents were Richard Parminter and Elizabeth Richards and they were both married in 1805 so this looks connected. What I would like to know is where I could find more information on Brigs vessels in/around Swansea St.Mary/Devon in the early 1800s and anywhere I could find registration information for these vessels and what they may have been carrying to and from this part of the country. The baptism record for his son, also called Richard, said he was a Master Mariner. Any pointers would be very helpful. Thanks

The Common Room / Online Family History Book printing
« on: Sunday 27 March 22 12:03 BST (UK)  »
I am writing my paternal and maternal family history books and getting close to a draft print and wonder if anyone can recommend an online book printer. I know there are many but would like one that allows easy reviewing and has flexible binding options and page layouts. I'm writing my books using Pages so will export to pdf when done.

Has anyone used a specific website and happy with outcome?

Many thanks

Thanks Jon. Shipley is where Sarah's father John was born. and I have the record of his death being 1821 in Shipley so there is a strong connection between the two persons. Funny I could not find the Shipley death of Sarah in 1815/16 on Ancestry or FindMyPast unless I was searching incorrectly.

So, with this from you and JonW, does that mean:

My Sarah Etheridge, b.1794, married Arthur Beer in 1821 but died sometime later in 1825/26 after having produced a son William in 1822? Arthur re-married in 1829 to Mary as record shows he was a widower?? Sarah would have been 31/32 years old when she died.

Number of suitable aged Sarah Etheridges = 4 including my one with correct parents - 1800 Tangmere, 1802 Horsham, 1802 Horsham,1794 Horsham.

Don't understand your other message about 'think it's 1825/26...'  Sorry.

Also, I don't see any records of Arthur Beer and Sarah other than marriage. Could he have re-married Mary later as there are census records for these two. Straw clutching now...

Hello Carole

Thanks for reply. I have found at least 3 death records - July 1826; Dec 1825; Mar 1848. These are all in Sussex. There are others later but I am expecting her to have remained in Sussex. I don't have a timescale for her death, hence the block and request for ideas.

Cannot find any 1841 census entry for Sarah Beer in Sussex either hence looking for early deaths. All searches on Ancestry and FindMyPast. As for the marriage, I have chosen Arthur Beer in Itchingfield, Sussex in 1821 as only location close to where her parents would have been living.

Sussex / Help with Sarah Etheridge of Horsham b.1794

I'm writing my maternal family history book and one of my 3rd Gt Grand-Aunts is presenting a roadblock. Sarah Etheridge born 1794, baptised Horsham to John and Sarah. I have a marriage to Arthur Beer in 1821 in Itchingfield, Sussex not that far from Horsham. I have records for at least two children, William and Mary but how can I be convinced I have the correct Sarah Etheridge? There are several Sarah Beer deaths in Sussex that would fit so how can I be sure I have the right one??

Many thanks...
