Did you sort this out? John Collins from Wareham was my 2nd great uncle and I don't have a son called Robert for him and Eliza Ann Woodland. The last child they had was Walter born in 1878. John Collins died in 1900. Eliza died some time after 1891.

Looks like Piddle something to me. But there is a Piddlehinton in Dorset. There was another John Cole residing in Piddlehinton who could be related. Will look into this. Thanks :)

The above person was the esquire of Witchampton village in Dorset and owned/lived in the manor house. I am trying to find out where he was born and what year, and why he was vested to Witchampton. I only know the limited information I found on the Witchampton OPC web page and there is a large wall memorial in the church dedicated to him. I have googled his name but I can't seem to find anything. If anyone can find anything, I would be very grateful :)

Thanks

I thought the same as you Trish, but realised the parents of Mary Jane Bugler had different names. But thanks for trying. :)  I just cannot find a Frederick Davey Victualler with a daughter called Mary Jane. My mum who is 85 was telling me that when they were children, they were not allowed to ask things so her grandparents, who all died before she was born, were never talked about. She said that is how it was back then, which is a shame.

Been tearing my hair out for weeks trying to find my great grandmother, I am almost bald! If any of you clever people can help me I would be eternally grateful.

Mary Jane Davey married James Collins in Wareham in 1889. According to the marriage document, she was 30 which means she was born around 1859. Her father is shown as Frederick Davey, occupation Licensed Victualler.

Two census records I have found show that she was born in Beaminster, Dorset, and the ages on these were a bit different which means she may have been born in 1862 or 1863.

I have found a Frederick Davey from Stoke Abbot, Dorset, born abt. 1842 and married to Mary Ann Bugler. They had 5 children, the eldest being Jane Davey, born 1863. I am wondering whether Jane Davey is in fact Mary Jane as she may have changed her name later. Or possibly Mary Jane was born around 1859 and born out of wedlock and brought up by another member of the family. Or maybe I have just got the wrong Frederick Davey.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks x

Thanks for that. You have been very helpful :)

Thanks very much for that. Much appreciated. Always the woman's fault. lol.

The strange thing is, that he is buried in the same burial plot as my ggg grandmother in Cardiff. And so is the unmarried daughter.

I couldn't find a birth record for him or his parents. It seems that a lot of the Coombs were from Somerset. Although he was born in Bristol, am I right in assuming the birth could be registered in another county? All this is still new to me so I am still trying to find my way round it all!

Thanks again for finding the newspaper articles.

Yes, he was the manager in her shop.

I was trying to find the newspaper article about his suicide but couldn't find it. Where did you find it?
