Monmouthshire / Re: James Kenvin (Kynvin)

Oh! I can see that you are having the same trouble as I have had.
Going round in circles.
I began with that 1861 Census where it states that James was born in Risca, most others just state Monmouthshire, though his last showed Newport.
I have a Birth Certificate for his son William (b) 31/10/1846 showing James as father and Mary Morris as mother. Mary died 16/10/1854.
I've checked Rootsweb on Dustydocs in every Momnmouth Parish, without success.
It seems that not all records are available or have yet been transcribed.
I think your comment about the non-conformist churches is the key issue.
Many years back, the Gwent County wrote to me, concerning William's children, (my grandmother etc) advising that the family moved around a lot and moved from church to chapel.
Thank you all for trying.
Ken.

Yes, you're on the button there concerning Elizabeth Townsend.
Makes me think that Sarah passed away shortly after either James or sister Eliza, who I also can't trace, were born.
Many in Ancestry give their mother Sarah's date of death in about 1860 but I think it wold be before William married Elizabeth.
For now, I'm thinking about 1817, but I would like to be sure.
Many thanks for your help here.

Monmouthshire / James Kenvin (Kynvin)
« on: Tuesday 20 August 19 03:03 BST (UK)  »
Various Census date James's birth between 1817 to 1820, and in one, he is stated to have been born at Risca.
His parents were William and Sarah Kenvin.
A number of siblings between 1813 to 1815 are shown to be born at Risca and have the spelling of Kynvin.
However, I am unable to locate any birth record for James anywhere in Monmouthshire.
Can anyone assist please?
Ken.

Thanks again for everything Trish.
Yes, I have put it out, together with my theory, but only received loud laughter.
The Cornish Society too, as I said, have no information, not even to my suggestion that if, as the Addy arrival indicates, he was already married, why they (we) can't find a Wedding Certificate for Andrew and Elizabeth Jane Bolitho (Trezise).
My theory is that as he was already married, he couldn't commit again, but still fathered 11 childen.
Oh boy.
Once again thanks, at least you settled William Trezise for me. That Wedding Certificate did it.

Thanks for that Trish.
I didn't realise that you were a local too.
I forgot to thank you earlier for proving that Elizabeth Edwards was William's mother.
Can be confident with my Tree now.
You and the other girls who have helped me with the Davies 3 years back do a marvelous job.
Well done to you all.

For Trish... I forgot to mention that Elizabeth Edwards had been previously married and had had 3 children with a Boyens.
Trish, I'm surprised that you were able to refer to Richard Eddy's movement to Australia in 1848 via the 'Santipore'.
Of course I knew that but, I'm wondering what access you have to these shipping records.
A matter of dispute between myself and the Cornish Society of Vic. has been the arrival of Andrew Eddy to Australia.
Census shows him still at Trevean Cornwall in 1851 but he is lost then until providing Elizabeth Jane Bolitho, previously Trezise, with the first of her next 11 children in 1863/4.
We, they and I, can't find his arrival here.
On his death Certificate in 1882 it states that he lived in Vic. for 27 years which would make his entry here about 1855. As his brother and family had moved from SA to Vic in about 1852/3, I can see no reason for him to go to South Aust. I've checked anyway.
But I did find an Andrew Addy and perhaps wife Hannah, plus 2 others, arriving in 1855 on the 'Gypsy Bride' into Vic. I'm taking this as my g/grandfather. Cornish Society won't accept it.
I can't find Andrew marrying any Hannah in the UK (between 1851 & 1855).
Do you have any access to things that I don't?

Thanks again Trish, yes that's the family.
My g/grandmother whom you've listed here, Elizabeth Jane Trezise, married her mother's cousin, Thomas Bolitho. They had 4 children. He was killed in a mining explosion and she married her mother's husbands brother, Andrew Eddy. Had another 11 children. (sisters in-law)
Her father was my wandering William Trezise who, as you point out, was married to Jennifer (Jane) Bolitho. After his death in I think it was 1844, she married Andrew's elder brother, Richard Eddy.
They moved to Australia in 1849 and had, from memory, 3 children. Richard was accidently shot by one of his flock, a Madden boy. Martin Edwards Trezise married a Madden.(probably missplet, please excuse).
So back to William and his mother, maybe Edwards, she had, how many children if we accept Ancestry.com, 3 Edwards, William, Selebah, John, Thomas and maybe another, makes about 8.
Perhaps Elizabeth Jane Trezise with her 15 was trying to outdo her grandmother.
Fond regards

Thank you once again Trish.
I think I'm reasonably satisfied now. Just wanted everything right. You know how it is, others just copy without checking.
I did enjoy your assistance about 3 years back when you offered help with finding HANNAH EARLSTON for me. I eventually found her birth as MARY ANN HURLSTON at Oswestry Salop.
Lovely to hear from you again.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I accept that the dates of all those children fit, and that all were chr. at Trewellard, but it doesn't sit well with me that some of the children would be given their mother's name and others not, if all belonged to the one family.
And too what about Elizabeth Jermin? No children of her own?
We can see that the 3rd Elizabeth 'Warren' had her own family.
I am only able to locate 2 Census of 1841 for these 3, including 'Warren'. One including John, Thomas and Sebelah.
The unmarried children of 'Edwards' do not appear on either.
Do you have any further thoughts.
I'm just about thought out.
I see that EVERYBODY accessing Ancestry.com accepts these children as one family but is that good enough?
