Thanks for your consideration—but no worries, I didn't have any illusions about a response from the OP anytime soon (or ever)!

Ha ha, yes, I noticed that—but these discussions are of interest to other people too (like me!), so I thought I'd add more information for anyone else who might stumble across this thread in their searches.  :)

Hi Geoff—I don't know about Patrick, but Hugh McDermott and his wife Mary (née Robinson) baptised a number of their children in Dundalk around that time: Mary Anne (1844), Hugh (1846), Bernard (1851), Teresa (1854), Alice & Bridget (1856), and Jane (1859).

There's a curious gap there 1846–'51, so there's a chance Patrick might've been born in that time and baptised elsewhere (or there could be a gap in the register—I haven't checked for that).

Thanks, Parmesan - I looked again on Ancestry with a broader search and found it (surname was transcribed as 'Rown'). I think that's where it says "Thomas, son of", rather than a middle name - but yes, his Dad's occupation is there, which is what I needed to confirm it!

Thanks for looking, much appreciated. Reminds me that I need to try broader searches sometimes, to account for transcription errors...!

Thanks for the prompt response, Carol. I don't suppose they recorded the father's occupations in the baptism records at St. Philip's at that time, did they? I only have access to transcripts rather than images...

Hi! If anybody with access to the St. Philip's registers would be able to verify any further information in the following entry (obtained via FamilySearch), that would be much appreciated!

Thomas BROWN - born 19-06-1821, baptised 28-12-1821
Father: William BROWN

Thanks for any help you can provide.
