Found this old map of what, I think, is the area - dated 1855?. Lists those of "note" in the locale - but no Murphy.

Click on "Full Image" for map.

Thank you for sharing. Thomas and the family wouldn't have moved to Port Dalhousie until after 1871, perhaps before 1876.

Canada / 19th century Port Dalhousie Lock 1 property records
« on: Thursday 10 August 23 18:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for any information that might shed more light on my third great grandfather Thomas Murphy 1822-1877. Sometime after 1871 our family left New Brunswick for Port Dalhousie. In an 1877 city directory I found Thomas Murphy, boarding house keeper Lock 1. Thomas died in July 1877 in Port Dalhousie. I even managed to find a person or two that was residing at 'Thomas Murphy Lock 1.'

I am wondering if there might be any probate records that might indicate any particular property he may have purchased, mortgaged, or leased.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Kevin Murphy

Hello,

I am looking to find the parents of a John McDonald who married Joan P Buttfield in 1959.

John Mcdonald & Joan P Buttfield Jun qtr 1959 Ilford RD
Volume Number:   5a
Page Number:   723

Can anyone help me?

He died in 1998 on the Isle of Bute. She passed away last year. There are two John McDonalds who died on the Isle of Bute that year. One was 63 and the other was 69. One of them had the middle name McMillan.

I believe this John McDonald was born in Glasgow.

Thank you

Hello,

My name is Kevin Murphy. I am a co-administrator of the Murphy DNA Project at familytreedna.

I would like to invite any men with the Murphy surname and/or any other variation to please consider taking a Y-37 DNA test to start. I would highly recommend anyone with an incredibly extensive Murphy family tree to consider a Big Y test if you can afford it.

Just for those who may not understand, Y DNA testing pertains to the male line, inherited and passed from father to son. Any of the wonderful Murphy women out there, if you have a brother, cousin, any male relative who is a Murphy we would be most thankful for more to join. There are definitely many independent Murphy families that have arose in different parts of Ireland and we are excited to have been uncovering more about the origins of these families.

Please feel free to reach out to me by email with any questions. (*)

Europe / Kirchardt or Sinsheim, Germany SS Officer
« on: Monday 05 July 21 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for help finding information regarding an SS Officer named Richard Reinhardt. He had a wife named Erna. They had children in the early 1930s. One or more of them were born in Sinsheim or Kirchardt.

I would like to know if anyone is able to search for SS records or if there is any site that is great for any graves prior to 1999 in this area of Germany.

Thank you

I meant the children of Michael and Catharine born in Glasgow did not indicate the parents marriage. I have those images as well as for the census

Thank you for your response Monica! So it seems it may had been merely a coincidence. The birth records for Michael and Catharine in Glasgow did not show their marriage place. I have images for their children that were born there and also have images for the 1861 census. Killlow looks like it is likely Killala or possibly Kiltura in Mayo. I wonder who the other couple John and Bridget Rooney were then and if they were of any relation, but can't seem to find anything.
I am also curious about the other Dyers that lived next door at 101 Bridgegate if there is likely a connection there.

Thanks again for your help

From 1851 Scotland census
Residing at 94 Old Wynd

Michael Dyre 25
Catherine Dyre 23
Patt Dyre  8
Bridget Dyre 5

In 18161 Scotland census residing at 100 Bridgegate

Micheal Dyes 45
Catherine Dyes 38
Patrick Dyes 19
Bridget Dyes 15
Elizabeth Dyes10
Mary Dyes 5
Sarah Dyes 8 Mo

1851 residing at 108 Old Wynd

John Dyer 37
Bridget Dyer 32
John Dyer 12
Matthew Dyer 10
Peter Dyer 8
Honor Dyers 4
Cath Carley 26

In 1861 Scotland census
Residing at 101 Bridgegate

John Dyer 50
Bridget Dyer 50
Peter Dyer 19
Anne Dyer 10

Michael Dyer and Catharine Manley end up in Port Dalhousie Ontario between 1868 when Elizabeth died in Glasgow and 1871 as they appear in the Canadian census.

In Patrick Dyer and Mary McDonald's baptism of one of their children in Port Dalhousie had shown one of the sponsors to be a John Rooney and Bridget Dwyer. I thought it may be possible that it was actually a Bridget Manley possibly a sister of Patrick's mother Catharine as there is an 1852 catholic marriage record from Glasgow between a John Rooney and Bridget Munly or Munley.
I did find a John and Bridget Rooney also residing at 101 Bridgegate in 1861, however there is also a death record for a John Rooney son of John Rooney and Bridget Manley from 1863 stating the child was 3 years old which could conflict with this record
1861 residing at 101 Bridgegate
John Rooney 50
Bridget Rooney 48
Mary Rooney 9
John Rooney 7
Agnes Dick 39

I also found an 1851 census of this family residing at 60 Old Wynd

Bridget Dyer 58
Thomas Dyer 24
Mark Dyer 20
Agnes Dyer 16
Bridget Dyer 13
James Dyer 11
Mary Donley 40
Roseanne Donley19
Margaret Twigley 35
John Muldown 40

I don't have much to go by and this obviously isn't definitive, but I believe I may be onto making a big connection in my family tree and would appreciate any guidance or insight anyone could provide.

Thank you

Kevin Murphy

I found information which leads me to believe the prior connections that had been drawn for Mary McDonald daughter of John McDonald and Rose Kelly were incorrect. Considering that Kelly is a very common surname one of the top 5 most common Irish surnames in combination with a name as common as John McDonald it is likely there was another couple if not a few during the time period.

Patrick Dyer as indicated in marriage records as well as his other familymembers in a variety of records lived at 100 Bridgegate in Glasgow near the River Clyde.

In the 1851 census I found this:

Sarah Rooney appeared to be a lodging housekeeper for 100 Bridgegate. I observed that in an 1863 baptism for Michael Dwyer in Port Dalhousie Ontario son of Michael Dwyer from Ireland and Mary McDonnell from Scotland. The sponsors were a John Rooney and Bridget Dwyer. I would like to note that my wnd great grandmother Katherine Dyer Murphy was sometimes typod or miswritten as Katherine Dwyer in newspaper articles and other records.

I wonder if the Janet is a sister and if Frances is an uncle.

Any ideas of what to do from here?
