Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: Beavers, Arthur L

Sanawar is a nearby Hill of Kasauli, which is still a cantonment from that time.. I can help in finding the birth records if the birth or baptism happens in Kasauli, Subathoo or Dagshai..

Please let me know..

I am not sure exactly where this should go but as the family came from around Portsmouth I thought I would place it in this section.

Let me explain...

... My father is doing some family research into the Beavers family, its on my mothers side but she wouldn't know what to do with a computer so my dad is filling in. He wanted to know more about Arthur L. Beavers who he managed to find a death record of on ancestry.com which in turn listed his date of birth (but not place). According to this source he was born on 16th May 1914 and died in district of Northampton in 2002.

After failing to find his birth records (page, vol etc) my father emailed a member of our family from IoW whom reckon that Arthur was born in India - she believes that Arthur, along with his brothers went to 'The Laurence School' in North West India, it was a very British school built for the children of fathers serving in the Army.

I would like to know really if there is any way I can find any birth records of him in India.

Any help would be fantastic on this matter.

You can mail to contact@christchurchkasauli.org and you can get probably get the burial record for this.
Christ Church Kasauli is having all the records for Dagshai, Subathoo

My grandfather was in the British Army most of his adult life. I never knew him and until this year, knew nothing about him. However, contact with relatives has provided me with many photos. This one is from an album that belonged to him and contains many pictures from when he was stationed in India (from 1930-1936).

Can anyone tell me anything about this photograph and why it was in my grandfather's album?

Thanks for your help.

Julie

Information can be verified from the Church Records at Kasauli.

contact@christchurchkasauli.org

A widow of the 44th regiment remarried in 1843 to another member of the 44th, and their son's Australian death certificate in 1908 said that he was born in "Ghiznee, Afghanistan" in 1844. I have since found his christening record at Kussowlie on 25 August 1844, with his father now belonging to the 9th regiment, but he was said to be born on 16 July. How likely is it that he was actually born in Afghanistan?

There is one more in Kasauli itself in the Market called Aarhat Bazaar..
As far as i know there are other old boxes in Calcutta (5), Darjeeling (2) and Shimla (1).

For interest, this splendid pillar box stands just inside the Kasauli Club grounds. If anyone is aware of another like it in India , I would be very pleased to know. They were made by Suttie &  Co. in Greenock, Scotland in about 1856 and a handful still remain in use in India.

Hii

I can check if the death has been registered with the local Church there. Cemetery is in Kasauli itself.. You may mail to contact@christchurchkasauli.org

Tell me the Date of Death and Full Name

Hello,

My late Grandfather, Frank Hershel PRIOR was a Major in the I.A.O.C based at Fort William, Calcutta.  My father was born at Fort William in 1934 and his brother was born 3 years earlier at Ranikhet in 1931.  Sadly, my father's sister Eileen Iris PRIOR, (born 8 October 1929), died 7 May 1930 at the British Military Hospital, Kasauli.  Where would I be able to find a death certificate for Eileen Iris PRIOR?  Also, does anybody know if there is a cemetery nearby where she may have been buried?

Many thanks,

Lesley
