Hi all,

It would appear the problem is with my notebook as my Internet connection is showing no problems, so I will be packing it back in it's box, and taking it back to the shop. Hopefully will get it repaired or a replacement as it is under guarantee, thanks again for all the help trying to sort this out it's very much appreciated.

Many thanks Brian,

Have followed this and it had not made any difference, I cannot understand why only my notebook keeps disconnecting and the other laptops in the house are not. I will try contacting my Internet provider and see what they say.

 Thanks again

Hi,

First of all thank you for taking the time and trouble to try and help me out, Yes I am connecting to my own wireless connection, when it disconnects and I try to re connect my notebook tells be it cannot be found, (cannot connect to any neighbour's connections either).
My notebook can be connected at the same time as my husbands/daughters then mine will disconnect whilst theirs stay connected. I have tried plugging the broadband connection directly into my notebook but no luck, husband is not sure how to re set notebook,  but we have re set the router and modem,  also our Internet connection does not appear to be password protected, would this be causing a problem? Not sure how to do that either.
Thanks to all for help and suggestions, sorry not very tech minded.

Hi all,

Our Internet connection is Virgin via cable, we all use the wireless connection to our laptops husband usually in the same room as myself and daughters in their bedrooms. My notebook has worked fine up until a week ago when it started disconnecting, sometimes for hours at a time.

Many thanks

Hi Alan and KHP,

Thank you for your replies, I will change my router and see if that works, although it seems very strange that it is only my new notebook that is being affected, I don't know too much about setting up my wireless connection, I think it was done for us. (if husband feels brave he may attempt it)

Thanks again for the help

Hi Redroger,

 Many thanks for your reply,

My  connection is to broadband virgin media wireless, my husband can be using his laptop at the same time as me and in the same room and I will lose my connection while he stay's connected, I am thinking of taking my notebook back to the shop where I bought it as I still have the receipt and it is under guarantee, but I am not sure if it is my notebook that is at fault. I just wondered if anyone had an idea as to what is causing this to happen.

I purchased a new notebook a couple of months ago and everything worked perfectly until about a week ago when I lost my connection, my husband and daughters use wireless laptops and all were still connected, since then my notebook disconnects at random without any pattern and will not re connect sometimes for hours at a time, I can't figure out what is going on.

Anyone have any ideas please

The Common Room / Re: help please with message from ancestry

hi Dolly,

I have only just moved over to Find my past and still new to the site, the reason I changed from Ancestry was I had been with them for many years and felt I had covered most areas of my research on there, so far the parish records on Find my Past have been very helpful to me but I am still finding my way around the site. I would say that both sites are very good. If you give Find my past a try, you can always switch back to Ancestry after twelve months if you don't like it.

I have just left Ancestry and moved to Find my past, and today I received a message from someone through Ancestry concerning a branch of my tree, unfortunately I cannot reply. Would some kind person who is a member of Ancestry be able to send a reply for me???

  Many thanks for any help
