Hello. I'm hoping someone can help me track down an image of a company that was around in the 80s up to early 2000s . The company was Snell and Co. And they were at 53 Frederick Street in Edinburgh back in the day but moved addresses later on. Thank you.

Cumberland / Help needed please
« on: Monday 06 April 20 17:21 BST (UK)  »
Hello all. A friend of mine who is currently living in Amsterdam has just found out her dad has died today in England. With all that is going on at the moment she obviously cannot travel back to sort things. In order for him to be buried the funeral directors say they need to death date of his first wife who is in the plot. I have found the burial index for magdeline rickerby born November 1938 and died July August September quarter 1977 in Whitehaven. Is there any way to find the exact date of death without having to get the death certificate which will take time to arrive even with the most expensive one purchased. Thank you for any help you can give.

Hi and thank you to everyone who replied. The person I was looking into this for sadly passed away shortly after she asked if anything could be done for the image and I totally forgot to pass on my thanks to everyone.

The Common Room / Newspaper Copyright (cartoons)
« on: Thursday 06 September 18 14:35 BST (UK)  »
Hello. I work for Bury Archive Service and have recently been looking through some old copies of The Bury Times from the 1920s and 1930s. In these editions of the paper there were cartoons published depicting the Bury FC games as well as other events in and around Bury. Every cartoon was signed by the artist (Benjamin Crawshaw). I have delved into his family history and he died in 1973 in Wembley. He never married and the only relative I have been able to track down is his great nephew Nigel Taylor born in 1965. I have not been able to find anything further about Nigel.

I know that copyright would expire 70 years after his death (31st December 1973) but am a bit confused as to whether permission from an existing family member would allow us to do something with this collection. The newspaper that he provided the cartoons for do not have any details of the employment contract. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Trying to find a Tooting chap!
« on: Friday 29 June 18 15:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello. I am trying to trace someone who was from the Tooting area but have very little information. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have:

Name - Sunny (sonny) Birch - The Sunny bit I am sure is a nickname

Born around 1890s. He had a fleet of lorries and his business operated out of Longley Road in Tooting. His company used to deliver books for London Council Library Service. I have checked Electoral Registers and Trade directories but have found nothing. I am hoping that someone with more local knowledge can help. It is a long shot especially considering I don't have a first name. Hopefully the business will ring a bell with someone. Thanks

Fantastic thank you. Not sure what I was doing wrong as looks like all names are correct. Will I need to purchase a certificate or is the information on the marriage available online?

Thank you so much.

London and Middlesex / Trying to locate an elusive marriage!
« on: Wednesday 21 February 18 15:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have located a family that I have been a long time looking for. In the 1911 census they are living at 240 Sellincourt Road in Tooting as follows:

William Stephens  43 - Hairdresser and Painter born in Peckham
Jane Stephens  42 born in Birkenhead
Rosebell Stephens  13
Dora Stephens  11
Gertrude Stephens  9
Fred Stephens  8
Edward Stephens  6
Elise Stephens  3

Listed marriage duration as 15yrs so married around 1896.

I located the same family in the 1901 census at 15 Lower Marsh in Lambeth where it states that Jane was born in Liverpool

William Stephens  30 - Hairdresser
Jane Stephens  28
Rose Stephens  2

All children have Mothers Maiden name of Laycock. I know that there may be an Irish connection and Jane may not have been from Liverpool but am struggling to find the marriage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for this. I am struggling to see where on the link it states John and Jane's parents?
