Hi Dave  :)

Thank you for the message and the link.  So far you are the only one who has provided any info on Crosslands, haven't had any luck so far searching the internet.

Thank your mother for the memories! I will pass this on to our aunt.

Take care
Pat

Hi Casalguidi :)

Thank you for the info - I have been doing research on all sides of the family (my husbands and mine) to leave for our kids.  I go back and forth between families but sometimes info comes in that sends me back in that direction! :)

Thank you very much, appreciate it!

Hi Sancti

No I don't believe so.  I am beginning to wonder if he had anything to do with Fife. You would thing you could at least find both Herbert Patons as I have his fathers name on the marriage certificate but in 1912 Herbert Paton is living in the Parish of Islington in the County of London.  My husbands mother (who didn't know her father always said he was from Scotland and from Fife.  But we can't seem to find anyone who fits.

Thanks for looking and I will keep on checking out your leads.

Hi Sancti

Herbert married Madeline in 1912, last child born in 1921. Children put into home in 1923.  So if he remarried it would be after 1923 - don't know for sure if they even divorced.

Hi Pam  :)

You have certainly found a lot of info - thank you!

I have Madeline and Herberts marriage license - issued from the parish of Islington in the county of London.  He is listed as a dairyman, living at the time of marriage at 123 Hornsey Road.  His father Herbert Paton is listed as deceased.  He was listed as 30 years of age - hence  birth around 1882. We know absolutely nothing more. Rumor is his middle name may be Thomas, but that may be wrong. Childrens name are Herbert, Edwin, Margorie, Elizabeth, Ruth and Madeline.

We interviewed an aunt last week who is 88.  She was put in a workhouse - home when she was 4.  Last time she saw her father was in the early 1930's around the age of 11. Never saw him again.  Cannot find a death, remarriage or divorce.  Just have the marriage license to prove that he did exist. No pictures - just that he had a handlebar moustache!

It is certainly frustrating not being able to find out anything about my husbands grandfather.  I have done all the genealogy on both sides of the family and have gone back quite far but this man eludes me!

I will follow up the leads you have sent me and I truly appreciate your responses.

Thanks from Ontario
Pat :)

Looking for any info on Herbert Paton.  May have been born in Fife.  Fathers name was also Herbert Paton.  Married  Madeline Louisa Waller on June 16, 1912.  Not heard from again since the 1930's.  Divorced and may have remarried.  Children and grandchildren would like to know whatever happened to him.  He seems to have vanished.

Hi Jane

No,  this does not relate to the children being sent to Australia ( but I did see the articles on google - very disturbing )

My husbands mother and all her siblings were put into the homes as their parents had divorced and the mother could not take care of her children.  We interviewed her yesterday - sharp as a tack!  :)

Thank you for the site info - I will check it out! :)

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Linden's Crosslands Home
« on: Friday 18 January 08 01:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Talked with an 88 year old aunt from England today.  She says she and her siblings - just the girls - were put in Linden's (sp?) Crosslands Home in Croydon.  The boys were sent to a home on Mayday road.  I have googled but have found nothing.  Would anyone remember these homes?  They would have been sent there in the 1920's and early 30's.

Thank you from Canada
