Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: William Smith Bedale HELP NEEDED PLEASE
« on: Friday 27 January 17 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for your help. On William's daughters birth certificate he says he is a Farmer in August 1891.
I am now beginning to think it is the correct death certificate. William could have lost his job and taken another in Borobridge. There is no other deaths what could be his.
My friend is going to the records office next week to see if there are any workhouse records for Knaresborough.
Williams wife Jane nee Boynton, her father Joseph Boynton is a taskmaster in Bedale Union workhouse.

In the link you sent me for record office, do they hold the Knaresborough records? Also would his wife Jane and daughter be in the workhouse with him?

1891 a farm labourer, then months later on his daughters birth certificate the occupation is Farmer and they have moved to The Sewerage Farm. This place if I am correct had just started being a sewerage plant. The death certificate  says " a farm labourer of Borobridge". Which I didn't think was right. Also the age isn't correct, but I cannot find another death entry.
What kind of information do the workhouse records give and where are they held ?
Thank you again.

Thank you for all your wonderful help. All correct.
My Grandma Annie Smith born 15 August 1891 at The Sewerage Farm, Ripon Road, Harrogate, occupation of father, farmer. William Smith, mother Jane Smith (Boynton) Lovely address. Just found this out recently.
In 1901 census Jane Smith nee Boynton, married Frederick Stelling and has more children.
The death certificate I got for William Smith was 21st February 1894 Union Workhouse, Knaresbrough, age 28 years a farm labourer of Borobridge, died of Haemorrhage syncope. Informant master of workhouse.
Does anyone agree its the wrong Smith ? I really appreciate anyone who can help solve this one.

My Great Grandfather William Smith born June 1863, MoorEnd, Crakehall, parents William and Mary Smith. Married 12 May 1890 Bilton, Harrogate.   He died between 1891 and 1901 and I cannot find his death. There is one for January 1894 Knaresborough (9a page 73) but having received death certificate, I don't think it is his death. Can anyone help please. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the information. What else do you know about Edward Kemp buried at Felixkirk? Which paper did it come from. Lovely to hear from you.

I went to the church yard tonight, the inscription reads
In loving rememberance of our dear son Harry Clifford.
Whom it pleased God to take from the midst of his school mates on the Village Green at Kirkby Fleetham on September 22 1887 aged 10 years.
Though thou hast called me to resign
What most I prized it never was mine.

The gravestone has always been in remarkable condition for its age, but tonight, I was surprised that it had got green in the letters. So my husband cleaned it. Sad to think he died the way he did.Took some photos if you would like them.

I will try and visit the churchyard this weekend and get the inscription for you. His gravestone has always intrigued me. It stands out from the rest. It must have cost alot of money.
