Dorset / Re: Bugg family from Stourton Caundle

I am a descendant of Caroline Lacey's brother George, through his son Charles who emigrated in 1850 from Henstridge, Somerset to South Australia then Bendigo, Victoria.
In 1849 Anthony and Caroline occupied part of Marsh Farm in parish of Henstridge. [Sherborne Mercury 19 May 1849] also 1851 and 1861.

I am trying to put together a history of the Bugg family that lived in Dorset in the 19th Century.  Anthony Bugg , born in the late 1700's married a Caroline and at some point lived as a farmer in Marnhull.  His son and grandson, both called Anthony though his grandson was known as Anthony Samuel became farmers and lived in Marnhull and Stock Gaylard.  Most of the family stayed in the area though Anthony Samuel's sons went to London and one of them finally settled in Sussex.  Anyone knowing about this family or the area from which they originate please get in touch.  Particularly if you know who was farming in the areas of Stourton Caundle, Stock Gaylard and Lydlinch during this time.  Anthony, born in the 1700's was my great, great, great grandfather.

Somerset / Re: George SANSOM, Henstridge/henstead?

I don't know if this may help or confuse, but I have and ancestor Elizabeth SANSOM alias CHIPPETT.[married John LEWIS] of Henstridge.
I thought this might be a one off but when looking back through the Henstridge film, there were several SANSOMs with that alias. It might be worth searching for George with that surname too.
Judy

George was tried Somerset Wells Ist Jan 1844 and transported March 8th 1844 His crime was committed at Wincanton.

On the 1841 census he is at Wincanton  with the name being given as George Sampson aged 35.

The transportation record says he has 5 children but the 1841 census only shows 4

Sarah 10
Mary 7
John 12
George 3

I know that George junior ends up in the workhouse as he is there in the 1851 census.

George senior married Elizabeth Day at Wincanton. I will have to get back to you with the date. But he is a widower in 1844. All the children were born at Wincanton.

Hope that is some help.
