Spot on. Just can’t find the documents you are looking at. I would add not for a lack of effort!

Thanks Chempat,

Grateful for that information. Son was indeed in 2nd Battalion of Coldstream Guards.

Figured abroad but couldn’t work out where.

Much appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / Tracking military in 1840 census’

Wondered if anyone had any idea where soldiers in particular from Coldstream Guards and 2nd Life Guards may have been stationed in 1840.

Census for father and son draws a blank with father being in LG and Son coldstream during this period.

Regimental history doesn’t show overseas postings at this time.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I agree. Very informative. Based on that post next question that comes to mind is: should I wait to carry the test
Out if standards are going to improve so markedly over that time frame?

Hi All,

Any views on which company (of the many that are out there) do people feel is most worthwhile to use.

I have read most of the spiel and my current view is 23andme anyone add their two pence please.

Planning to pay for both parents to be tested (not against their will).

Have you looked on http://theweald.org  has lots of free information put together by locals interested in Sussex family history.

Had a quick look and couldn't see anything, but if you have roots down there its very useful.
