Travelling People / passing through site
« on: Sunday 14 December 08 19:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
those of you who have used passingthrough.wetpaint.com might want to know that the website is closing down - I am waiting for wetpaint to delete the site, but I am not sure when exactly it will occur.

I would like to make it clear, that contrary to what some people have said, this is not because I have been "got at" or that there has been a vendetta against the site, it is because of a few people who are continually complaining and being horrible about others. I have put up with it for several months, but find I am so irritated by it now, that I no longer want to maintain the site.

I wish all the people who have used it good luck with their research.

Best wishes
Jackie Blackman

Travelling People / Romany Rootschat Website - up and running under a new name
« on: Wednesday 16 April 08 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Those of you who have previously used my Romany Roots website (previously called Passing through) will know that due to the problems Rootschat have been having with their servers, the site has not been on-line for a considerable amount of time.

I have now moved the site to its new home at http://passingthrough.wetpaint.com/

What I think is quite exciting about the move is that the site is now editable by anyone who becomes a member - so you can add your own information - even add new pages if you want. To become a member just email me and I will add you to the member list, once that is done you will be able to make changes to the site - I hope that this way the site becomes more useful and that it will grow and grow.

Once the server problem is sorted I will also maintain that one - although it will not have all of the additions which you all will hopefully make.

Hi Ann,
That would be great, if you wouldn't mind doing that, I would be grateful.

Many thanks

Thanks for the message - if you let me know your names I will have a look and see if I can see them in my files.

Hi all,
This site has been down now for several months due to the server problems rootschat have had. I'm not sure when it will be up and running again as it is a problem their end, not mine. I am going to look into finding another webhost and if I can find one I will let you all know what the new address is. I'm sorry about this - I hope to get it sorted asap.

best wishes

Jackie

My site http://romany.rootschat.net/ seems to have disappeared. Any one know where it has gone or how I can get it back?

Many thanks

Jackie

Hi,
I'm really interested in your Vanslow - that was the name of my great grandfather and also of my 3 x great grandfather. I know it was found in both the Smith and Cooper Families.

If your Vanslow was a Cooper I would be very interested in finding out whether we have a connection

Robert Dawson has produced 2 books; one which gives common Gypsy surnames and the other forenames. What is especially useful is that he notes which first names were used within each surname - this is especially useful when trying to find out the maiden name of women.

I can't find his address, however, he often sells these on ebay so you could try on there.
