Thank you Hallmark and Dathai, I think that confirms the marriage details I had (and gives me a day in October now).

I am not overly familiar with the layout or abbreviations used in these parish records. Do either of you, or any other user, have any information to help decipher the record.

I assume that the  entry after each persons name is their home. Would that be a home Parish or a Townland? I am trying to decipher what the two abbreviations might mean.

It looks something like: Fintan Finlay, Coolm. to Peggy Doyle, Conng.

Where might those two locations be?

Seeking any details on Mary FENELLY (also FINLAY, FENNELLY or FANNALLY).

She was born in County Laois and migrated to the New South Wales colony in 1849 as part of the Earl Grey Scheme. I have some details from her arrival records in Sydney, and gathered a fair bit about her in Australia, but have not managed to find much more detail in Ireland.

Born: around 1833 to 1835 in Abbeylaix
Father: Fenton Fenelly
Mother: "Peggy", likely Margaret Doyle.

I believe I have a marriage record for Fenton Fenelly to Margaret Doyle in Raheen Parish, October 1829. I have no information about Fenton or Peggy and any assistance in locating information on Mary, Fenton or Peggy would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Can anyone tell me if records from the 1840s exist for Abbeyleix Workhouse? I have an Irish Orphan Girl who was given passage to NSW and I am hoping to find out when she went into the workhouse and if anyone else in the family were living there.
Katharine.

Hi Katharine75

(I know this is an old post, but hoping you might see my reply)

Did you ever manage to find any records from the Abbeylaix Workhouse and Famine Orphan girls?

I have an ancestor who was one of the Earl Grey Scheme Orphan Girls who came from Abbeyleix. I have not managed to uncover very much about her yet, except her place of origin and names of parents from her arrival records in New South Wales colony.
