Family History Beginners Board / Re: Roger Bruce Osborne (formerly Oppenheim) 1917-1982

I have already written several chapters of a history of Cambridge Tutors College, starting with details of the Oppenheim & Jacob families and tracing the beginnings of the college in Warlingham in the early 1960's.   The period for which I lack detailed information is from November 1959 when the Osbornes purchased the Grange to the Spring of 1962 when a major change of name took place.  Any help with this period would be most welcome.....

Thanks for this Annette7

Yes, it was definitely Vera Marshall who was a nurse, so maybe moved to Sheffield to work

The potted history I have of Roger Osborne simply states:

“In 1946, he married Vera Marshall from Sunderland”

So her birth is probably recorded there, rather than in Sheffield where she may just have been working in 1939.  There is mention of the fact that - during the war - she was working as a nurse in Burma

He was born in 1917 in Banda, India, the son of Ernst Oppenheim who was Commissioner in the United Provinces. He married Vera, a nurse from Sunderland and they lived in various parts of London, ending up in Warlingham and then Croydon.  Roger’s mother changed the family name by deedpoll in 1939
