Kincardineshire / Re: Hampton, Laurencekirk

JCee it appears we are second cousins. I have lot on the Hampton lineage, our grandfathers's parents were James Hampton and Mary Stewart, James' parents were Robert Hampton and Ann Wilson, his parents were John  Hampton and Catherine Stewart, he was the youngest son of Robert Hampton and Elizabeth Frazer. Possibly his parents were James Hampton and Janet Brand and his parents wee James Hampton and Agnes Fettes who were married in1716 and came from Fodoun.

Thank you Jean P.  I was fortunate enough to get pictures of the headstone of David Watson and his wife Catherine Barclay when I visited Arbuthnott in 1992. I will have to look to see if any of the others are related. Possibly John, the last in your list but the rest are too early and in Arbuthnott, where as David originated in Fordoun.  Your thoughtfulness is appreciated. Cheers, Ron

Speaking of Gallaghers, I have a Catherine Gallocher married to a Manus O' Donnell. that's all I have they are listed as the parents of Patrick O' Donnell when he married Eliza Dougan in the Gorbals in 1856. It was Patrick's second marriage.

Hi Jim:

Your James Gallagher who was born in 1851 wouldn't  have a birth cert. since the civil registration of births only started in 1855 in Scotland. If you find that sibling was born in that year it's well worth the expense of looking at the sibling's birth cert. since there was much more information on the bc in that year only, such as birth place of parents.  If James was born 1851 he maybe on the 1851 census (available from SP) unless he was born late in the year but then you should find  his parents on there.

Hi :

Sorry I took so long to respond.  I looked at my resources and records I didn't find an Isobel whatever spelling in that time frame in my Hampton lines.  I see your dilemma in that there isn't an Isobel that fits that birth time for Kincardine shire. That can only mean she may have been an interloper or in a parish that had later records.

« on: Thursday 30 March 06 11:07 BST (UK)  »
William Dempsey b circa 1832 as the oldest documented child of Edward and and Margaret Morgan. He gave his birth place as Newry on the birth cert. of his son born 1855 in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland. William married Agnes Kelly and was a coalminer and died 1890.
Does anyone recognize him?

Pardon my error. I wasn't aware I was infringing on any copyright. My feeling was that I paid for an item and I was willing to share in a non profit or commercial way, then I could. However, knowing the error of my ways on this board I will comply in future.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: Nicohl as a surname

I have found with surnames that have many spellings, especially the further back one goes, it's better to search with wildcards, at SP. Wildcards are asterix instead a letter.
Using Nichol as an example.
Some of the possible spellings are:
Nichol, Nichols, Nicol, Nicol, Nicoll, Nicolls, etc.
My search would be

nic*o*
