Hi Margaret,

So happy you found the updates as your message reminded me of the new information which I'm looking forward to revisiting.
William is my Fourth Great Grandfather - It goes, William, James (Jim), James William, Isabel, Betty, Annette, Me.
I also just received a package of photos and information from my grandmother (Betty Burke, nee: McElwee). It includes a copy of a newspaper article with a picture of William Joseph in it and a long letter written by George Johnston.  Would you like me to email it to you? If so, could you please let me know your email address? I'd love to compare notes!

Cheers, Sophie

Thank you so much for all you help Monica! It’s been just amazing. No wonder I was going around in circles, that spelling just gets more and more unusual.
I can’t thank you enough!

Hi, I'm so glad I found this information. William McElwee is my 3 x Great Grandfather and I've been searching for information about him and his parents, Joseph McElwee and Janet Lorimer.
I'm also fascinated that I can not find William's birth certificate, I have a feeling that McElwee has been spelt in an unusual way on it.
If anyone can share any further information regarding William and his parents it would be greatly appreciated. The McElwee name is certainly making it tricky to track them down.

Thanks
Sophie
