According to his biography by FLM Pattison (Canongate, 1987), after his dismissal by the University of London on 23 July, 1831, Granville Sharp Pattison was appointed to a Professorship in Philadelphia about 2 months later. The biography says he 'spent Christmas 1831 with his mother in Glasgow and remained with her there until April 1832 because of her failing health. ... Pattison set sail ... on 24 April 1832 ... to take up his appointment at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.' (pp182-3)
The biography also notes that 'at the conclusion of his first academic year, Pattison married. His bride was Miss Mary Sharpe of Cheltenham, England, and the ceremony was performed in New York by the Reverend Dr J. M. Wainwright on 1 June 1833.' (p187-8)
Are you sure that the marriage record you have in Westminster in 1832 is indeed for him? Where can it be found?
Regards.
