Family History Beginners Board / Re: Birth details of Robert Jones 1837 ??
« on: Friday 20 July 18 12:26 BST (UK) »I know exactly how frustrating researching a common surname can be. I've had that with a couple of my surnames.
Once you start getting to dates that are before BMD records began it gets harder. The best you can do is to make a note of any possibilities and where you found them, so you don't repeat the same searches again.
Records are being added online all the time. Perhaps a few years down the line the one you want will be available.
Other alternatives are to visit the relevant Record Office for the area and search there. Perhaps the local family history society may be able to assist you in your quest.

Not sure if the Chepstow Society will be any help, but you could try writing to them.

Thank you GirlGuide.
I will take a look at the links. I accept the frustration when my 'its not going to beat me' attitude subsides lol.
I have many lines to progress and am pleased with the overall progression of my tree.
If only however, our ancestors had placed our 'future need for records' and turned up where they should, behaved themselves & made sure the spelling of surnames was consistent with the past rather than concentrate on their own troubles and curved balls of the times eh !!
I'm going to give Jones a rest and try to further another line for a while I think. I have a couple of Galliers whom I believe were soldiers in the Napoleonic War I'd like to find more about ie where / when / foot soldiers or on horseback
