Thank you for all the comments and information.   I have been away for three days so slow in replying.   Wish I had learnt French, the av1817 explanation was of great help.

Feel finding record of JBs death may be too hard.

Thank you
Heather

Sorry my mistake, should have said Louis XV1.  The info comes from several trees on the Geneanet website including one of a well known historian it states
"Jean-Barthelemy de Ridder23.8.1742Cassel St Nicholas+av1817 bailly de Renescure puis chirurgien major attache a l'ambulance du prince d'Orange alias Chirurgien major du prince d'Orange decede a l'armee"
Not sure about the 1817 bit as he was meant to have died 1791/2 for which no record can be found.

Thank you, trying to find our why Jean Bart. De Ridder would have been a surgeon in the Prince of Orange Regiment in the 1780s although no record in military archives in Paris of such a regiment. Think will be a never ending case trying to find out JBs date of death whilst in the regiment.

Europe / Prince of Orange regiment in St Omer, France

It is stated that in late 1780s the Prince of Orange fled from his home country and set up in St Omer, France.   Does anyone know if there are any records for this time and where they may be found. Jean B De Ridder born in Dunkerque, baillie of Renescure was meant to be a surgeon in this regiment at the time and looking for any evidence.
Thanks

On the 12 Nov 1890 Louis Edward De Ridder was elected as a Fellow of the Hugenot Society.  I am not sure if he actually qualified for this.   How do I find out any details of this please.

sorry I should have said why I asked of course.   One of the De Ridders, Charles b. abt 1653 is shown as being a "cure" but in 1696 he married Jeanne Menaert.  He is shown on marriage record of Louis De Ridder and Anne Obay as ? of Spycker.

Regards
Heather
