Thanks for that. I am not bad with the general family It's the 1st marriage of Andrew Harkins that's quite interesting I think it must have been in Ireland. He obviously comes over with the family in West Lothian, seems to disappear and returns. He turns up at 29 years of age as widowed and remarrying there. You may have just come across the info on your research but Andrew is my great grandfather. Can I ask are  you researching them too?

WW1 In Memoriam / Cpl J GREER 11 btn Royal Scots (bodynot recovered)

James was born Hill Street at 5 Hill Street in Bathgate, West Lothian in December 1895.
He was the eldest of 13 children (some born after he died and so he is my uncle). Like most young men in the area he was a miner and when war broke out he enlisted with the Royal Scots at Bathgate in September 1914 and was sent to France in May 1915. (11th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Edinburgh, August 1914, as part of K1. attached to 27th Brigade, 9th (Scottish) Division and moved to Bordon.  He fought in Festubert, Ypres and Loos and escaped injury. However he was killed on the 16th of July 1916 during the second battle of the Somme. James was 20 years old. The family had moved to Kelty in Fife. The news was conveyed to them by a comrade in August 1916 stating that James had died from wounds.  There is a headstone within Quarry Cemetery, Montauban, bearing his name and service particulars but he is not buried there. He is among 19 casualties who were known to be buried in Quarry Scottish Cemetery, Green Dump Cemetery and Caterpillar Wood Cemetery No.2, but whose graves could not be found during the graves registration process after the war. Their memorial headstones are situated along a boundary wall of Quarry Cemetery, and in front of them is a stone marker with an inscription in their memory.

Thanks for replying. I suspect they probably did get married in Ireland. He was described as "widower" at 29years old when he remarried But I can't find him before then

Hello I have been researching my family tree for some time. I came to a stop at Harkins and Doyle and occasionally went back to it. On advance I typed it into the search bar and up came your enquiry. I think it was some time ago, but wondered if we can exchange any  information?
