Scotland / Rebecca Stuart 1710 b. possibly Scotland - d. abt 1783 Virginia, USA

Looking for information on Rebecca Stuart  1710  - 1783, m. 1726 John McClung in Virginia, USA. Legend has it that Rebecca came to America approx 1726 with brother Archibald Stuart via Ireland and that her family is related to the Stuarts of James I time frame - I have found no proof that Archibald was her brother, except that they resided/died in the same county in Virginia. There is a huge possibility of the legend being true, but have not found any hard evidence proving this. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi JJGrant - Yes I have verified that this is my Michael Cronin - the one in the naturalization documents is from Charlestown, MA born approx. 1815 - which matches my Michael Cronin. My Michael also stayed in Charlestown a good portion of his life - I have not found a death record as of yet, but I suspect he died approx. 1871 in Charlestown. I hope you find more info on your Michael - I did notice in doing research that the name varies: Cronnin, Cronan - maybe that will help? Let me know if I can help in any way. :)

Best of luck,

Tanya

Limerick / Looking for advice - on a translation

Looking for advice on a translation of a name of a place in Limerick - I have the Naturalization document for Michael Cronin to become a US citizen. On the doc, it states he is from Lismouth in Limerick. Now, I am assuming that the person writing the name was confused as spelling, as it looks like they went back and tried to correct a letter or two. Does anyone know of a place that might phonetically sound like Lismouth?

Thanks ahead of time!

Tanya
