Pembrokeshire / Re: Catherine Hemus c. 1792
« on: Saturday 17 November 18 02:31 GMT (UK)  »
It is my contention that Catherine F., the wife of Joseph M. HEMUS/AMOS, was born at Angle about 1792,  a daughter of Peter and Elizabeth AXTON.  It is expected that Joseph and Catherine would have married before 1810, when their daughter, also named Elizabeth, was born at Angle.  She was the eldest of three children known to have been born there - the others being Peter Axton (1815) and Caroline (1822).  So Peter and Elizabeth HEMUS/AMOS would have been named after their AXTON grandparents.

William DAVIES married Jane Flynn, at St Mary's Chapel, Bloomfield, City of London. on 30th April 1854.  They both lived in the Shoreditch/Hoxton/Kingsland area of north London but were both born in Co. Cork (William in Skibbereen) between 1830 and 1833.  No record has yet been found of the couple or of six of their seven sons after the 1881 census.  Does anybody have any additional information?

London and Middlesex / Re: JOHN AXTON - PARENTS??
« on: Monday 11 June 18 23:38 BST (UK)  »
Sorry, James was the ELDEST of five known children of John and Sarah.  I did not have the children listed in order and took the one at the bottom of the list.  John married Sarah Medcroft on 31st Dec 1798, at Clerkenwell St James and so, based upon a minimum marriage of 16, they would have been born before 1782.  If John and Sarah were the parents of James and adhered to convention, James would have been born between 1799 and 1802 at Bloomsbury or Holborn.  However, James may have been born as early as 1787, which may indicate that he was born of a previous wife of John, especially if there is a relatively long gap between James and the second sibling.  (a John AXTON = Mary BRYDGES, 8.8.1786, St.Pancras).

My interest is that a member of my family, also named John, disappeared from the Cheshire records after his baptism in ~1764 and I wondered if he could have been the same John Axton who married Sarah Medcroft.  The search continues.

There are several names mentioned in the above discussion that occur in my family tree.  Peter Axton, a farmer at Angle, Pembs, was a direct ancestor of mine.  His wife was named Elizabeth.  Their eldest child was named Thomas Peter Axton.  Thomas had a son, by Margaret Sinnett, who they named John Thomas Axton.  John married secondly Harriet Leah Bell, whose father was named Hyrum. Thomas and his descendants, and their spouses, all became Mormons and emigrated to Utah.  It seemed that there was a very active Mormon cell in Pembrokeshire and it would be interesting to find out more about it and the relationships that resulted.

This is a refinement of the posting I made a few minutes ago - I could not modify the original but managed to delete the text.

I've been stuck with the same problem for long before you posted it. Have you (or anybody else) made any progress? The best potential clue that I can offer is that Catherine, the (second?) wife of James, the youngest known child of John and Sarah, was born in Hadham, Herts, and their third child, Thomas, a grandson of John, was baptised 1825 in Whetstone, Herts. I don't know where the first two children, Hannah and John, were born. Can anybody develop this information?
