Family History Beginners Board / Re: Bicton Asylum Records
« on: Sunday 25 October 20 01:14 BST (UK)  »
They will copy stuff for a fee- I contacted them some time ago and they got back to me with a form to fill out but I have never managed to get organised to send them money (from another country) and get them to look at records

You could try the census records- 1871 has been posted online (no need for any subscriptons) and the indexes are also available on familysearch. But you might find him only entered as initials on some census (1871 shows names)

Just as a rather sad little addendum- fanny Simmonds mar Charles William Wood(s) , in 1911 she is in the census, 1912 she travelled to Canada to be with her husband. In 1914 she was apparently on the Empress of Ireland when it sank with the loss of many lives. She was not a survivor.
I am still checking out this story.

Suffolk / Re: Sarah Hatch (born around 1776)
« on: Sunday 22 July 18 02:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi I have English Hatch b 1808 to John and Ann in Ipswich. Non conformist family.
English was a lath maker so was John.
English married Harriett Cousins (also non con). They had a number of children in Manningtree and Ipswich.
I haven;t got very far with chasing this family but I believe John Hatch of Manningtree was the son of Samuel Hatch (of Lawford) who married Sarah English in the 1700's- there are several Johns bap 1740-65 and I haven;t narrowed it down yet.
There is no way on earth that your Captain English and my English Hatch are NOT related :-D.
Try Manningtree, Lawford and Mistley as well  as Woolverstone.
My branch moved to Ipswich by 1841 and either stayed there or moved to West Ham from what I can make out.

Madeley, she was pretty consistent - likewise her age- one of the transcriptions (1861 I think ) on familysearch gives no result for her or for Richard but actually on the original they are quite clear.
But she doesn;t seem to match with the baptisms shown for Dawley Magna (madeley and Dawley are right next door I think I'm right in saying)- Coalbrookedale which is where her son Richard was supposed to have been born according to family even though tge records show hin as quite clearly born and baptised in Shrewsbury

Somerset / Re: Help with origins of Samuel WEBBER bc 1796 Curry Rivell
« on: Wednesday 06 June 18 22:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi ,
yes the Samuel in 1875 is him (got my year wrong) he should have been 80 not 84 according to how old he said he was- s in law William probably added a few years ;-)
I have also found the marriage for William and Ann Moore- and baptisms at Curry Rivell for a whole load of children- but not one of them is a Samuel. It's where might be a likely place NEAR to Curry Rivell that he could have been baptised - including non con chapels I'm after, he could still have been brought up there but he wasn't baptised there.
I think I have found the death of Marian under that name- just need to go back and find it again- FreeBMD is soo fussy about getting spellings right and her name lends itself to a lot of misspelling (as the census prove) so she's on hold.
Samuel was buried at the "Necopolis", many years ago someone even found me the plot number- but that is stored on the hard drive of a defunct computer :-(
Thanks for your efforts folks
