Oh wow, thank you Carole! Sending a big hug to you from Australia. I have been stuck on this for months!  Can't wait to try and find out more. Thanks again!

Thanks Carole, I'll look into the other marriages - perhaps they are siblings of Patrick and Alice.
Yes I have the 1871 census thanks. I'm unsure why Margaret is recorded as born in Ireland here? Assume this is an error.

I'm not sure how to try and find out where Alice Daly and Patrick Tobin are from in Ireland so I can go back further. Maybe checking out those other marriages will throw something up. Thank you for the instructions on requesting the marriage certificate.

Thanks Carole, the marriage information is very helpful. Do you know how I would go about getting a marriage certificate or finding more details that will enable me to confirm where Alice and Patrick come from?

Ireland / Seeking help to find parents of Ellen Tobin (born St George, about 1877)

I am trying to trace the family of my Great Grandmother, Ellen Tobin, born around 1877 in St George, Middlesex. Her siblings are:

Margaret Tobin (b. 1860) Whitechapel/Ireland (census records are conflicting)
Honora Tobin (b. 1862) Whitechapel
Patrick Tobin (b. 1863) St George in the East
Alice Jane Tobin (b. 1872) St George in the East

I think her mothers name was Alice (possible Daly) from Ireland. Her father was Patrick Tobin from Ireland (based on her 1900 marriage bann). Patrick worked as a saddler in and around Whitechapel and Stepney.

I can't find a record of Ellen's baptism to confirm where in Ireland her parents are from though it may be Tipperary (based on family stories).  I would love to learn more about where Ellen's family came from as I know next to nothing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Loren

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: James William THEOBALD born about 1820. in Braintree, Essex

Thank you Mark!  I subscribed so I could take a look and found that interesting too. I'm fairly confident they had two children together, Eliza and James. Do you know if it is typical that everything would be left to his wife?

I'm not having much luck determining who Joshua's parents were.

Incredible, thank you so much everyone - I am really humbled by your help. I'm from New Zealand and still learning about the way UK records work. Feeling very blessed to have come across this site.

Now to try and find out more about Joshua. I'm hoping those additional names (Eliza potentially his sister, and Judith) might help me narrow the search.

That makes perfect sense and is really helpful info for me to use in the future. I will definitely consider SEAX and am hopeful I'll be able to learn more.

Thank you for the warm and very helpful welcome :)

Thank you so much for all of that information - I really appreciate it. I will add this to the other records I have found.

I have good information about Henry but can't seem to find out who James William THEOBALD's parents are. I have tracked James after 1841 but can't find his baptism record or anything else to go by to take my tree back further.

Do you know how I might go about ordering the birth certificate as all I have is the information in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index.

I still carry the family name so would really love to go back as far as I can on this side of my family tree.

Thanks again,

Essex Lookup Requests / James William THEOBALD born about 1820. in Braintree, Essex
« on: Tuesday 02 October 18 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Can anyone please help me to learn more about my relatives in Braintree, Essex. James William THEOBALD (b. about 1820). He is my 3 x Great Grandfather. He married Louisa Jane CLARKE (b. 1818) in Braintree in around 1844. I believe they had one son, Henry James THEOBALD in Braintree in 1844.

I have not been able to trace my family back any further and am very keen to learn the origins of my surname and family.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice...
