Thank you ! How interesting that the nuns were ‘suddenly’ employed at Southfield by the late 60s, though it was nhs run and not officially religiously affiliated. Maybe cheap / free labour ? Maybe they were in training for looking after babies at Nazareth house ? Interesting that there seems to be a connection between the two, though Southfield not the closest maternity hospital to Nazareth house, which probably wasn’t the nearest community of catholic nuns to Southfield.

That’s really interesting about the nuns - what were they trying to intimidate you about ? What did you need to argue about ? I’m intrigued ! And disappointed they were there and being unkind to young women at their most vulnerable.

Hi just saw your post re southfields - I was also born there and adopted from Nazareth house. I visited both buildings this summer and took photos which I’m happy to share with you if you’re interested. A lot of the buildings are unchanged from when we were there. Best wishes, Lisa

Ah thanks for that Mike - my daddy was Mr Tony !  I had forgotten he was called that !  I was always called 'queen' because we lived over the water lol !  I remember the Bold Street branch, but mostly helped out (bit young for proper Saturday / holiday job) at the Woolton branch, I loved it.  Don't remember Charlie, but do remember making up and delivering Christmas hampers, can't remember if we delivered to customers or staff ?  I didn't think there were as many as 14 shops, I always thought it was nearer 5 or 6 ?  I think EW was probably dad's father Eric ?  Not aware of a brother but I may be wrong.  Thank you for sharing your memories :)

Hi, just saw your very old post re my family's grocery business - W Brooks & co - did you find any info ?  I don't know much history beyond my own memories, which is what prompted me to idly do a google search - which threw up your search !  Best wishes
