Travelling People / Re: Giddings completed
« on: Thursday 05 January 17 16:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Thank you for all your posts,
As you are aware my original post was written a long time ago, and was labelled "completed" because I had all the information I was looking for. This man is not an actual relative of mine but of a second cousins. I think she now has quite a full history of him.
Thanks again for your searching, but please don't be troubled with it on my behalf.
I am grateful but I think we have this information. :)

Australia / George and Chrissie (?Christina) Paterson
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 19:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi
George Paterson was my husbands uncle, he and his wife emigrated in the 1960s sometime.
We know George died around1980's perhaps. Sometime after that the Christmas cards stopped from Chrissie. the family never knew what happened to her. They were in Western Australia.
So vague, I know -  15 myere st, mt claremont , perth
This is just a long shot to see if anyone knows /has access to any records that might help us find out what happened to Chrissie. we think she moved from that address after she was widowed.
thank you. Any information will be more than we have at the moment!

Renfrewshire / Re: Charles and Jane Fredrick of Greenock found on 1861 census
« on: Friday 29 January 16 22:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
thank you both for your help!
I have just been doing some more digging and I think I have found some of what I have been looking for. I eventually found Walter and Jane Frederick (sic) marriage and therefore parents!
that is a huge breakthrough.
So her father was Peter one of the sons of Charles Fredrick (the man who came from Germany and worked in the sugar factory).
This will help me draw up a more accurate tree now. I'm happy :)
Thank you again!

Renfrewshire / Re: Charles and Jane Fredrick of Greenock found on 1861 census
« on: Thursday 28 January 16 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
My late mother in law was born 1911, Jeanie Fredrick Paterson,
named after her father George Paterson's sister in law Jeanie Frederick (who was married to george's brother Walter).
sorry! I think I got all excited by finding a Fredrick family after all these years.
I realise Janet Fredrick youngest child of Charles and Jane Fredrick would be too old to be the Janet/Jeanie who married Walter.
But this family of Fredricks is the first family of that name that I have tracked down .
Can't find a wedding for Walter Paterson.
Sorry I got in such a muddle.
I'm so looking for a bit of help :)

Renfrewshire / Charles and Jane Fredrick of Greenock found on 1861 census
« on: Thursday 28 January 16 22:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm on a high! I've made a minor breakthrough with a branch of my family!! hooray!
needing a bit of help -
The family I have found is this: on 1861 census:
Charles Fredrick head age 47 sugar boiler   place of birth Germany!
Jane wife age 44 Stirlingshire
Catherine dau 25 Greenock
Peter son 21 iron moulder
M? son 19 ?
Henry son 15
Charles son 9
Janet dau 2
Janet Fredrick? mother in law 70 Stirlingshire Polmont

My interest is this:
my late mother in law was named Jeanie Fredrick (and her  surname). Always thought to be  from Germany.
Her father was George Paterson, his brother Walter Paterson married a woman known as Jeanie Fredrick. After many years this is the first time I have found someone with a "sounds -like" name that matches. The age gap between this young Jane/Janet/Jeanie b 17 October 1858 and Walter b 23.4.1877 is a bit weird.
Can anyone help me unscramble this family a bit please?
I'd also love to know more about the German connection.
any offerings would be most welcome.
Thank you in great anticipation!

Ayrshire / Re: Wallacetown is this statement correct?
« on: Monday 05 October 15 08:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Wallacetown was a separate parish surrounded by Newton Parish and Dalmilling - part of St Quivox Parish. Wallacetown Parish was absorbed into Newton Parish in 2010 becoming the Newton Wallacetown Parish.
I was the last minister of Wallacetown Parish Church prior to it being closed.
Hope this helps

Dumfriesshire / Miss Jean Jones, Thornhill
« on: Tuesday 07 April 15 08:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks
Jean Jones lived in Thornhill - on the main street. My daughter knew her in the 1990's, but lost touch with her. Does anyone remember her please? She would be very old now, but we expect she is no longer alive. She was a very special friend and my daughter would love to hear of anyone who knew her. I can't find her in the local paper obituaries. She was a church goer.
Thank you

World War Two / Re: Major John Weir DSO OBE COMPLETED
« on: Monday 19 January 15 16:55 GMT (UK)  »
Dear J and H,
I knew John Weir while I was the parish minister in Tarbolton from 1999 - 2003. My husband is a member of the Lodge there and had known him for many years. He was always a very kind man, and a contempory and friend of  my late father in law in Tarbolton.  My husband's grandfather was an official  at Tofts Colliery when Major Weir's father worked there as a winding engine man.
We were very saddened at Major Weir's passing and I was curious about his past and military career.
I'm sorry if my interest has distressed you in any way, that was never my intention, and I apologise.
As you can see, I had marked this thread as completed because I do not wish any more information regarding Major Weir.
Would you prefer that I remove the whole series of comments on this? I'm happy to do so, if you wish.
I was privileged to visit the Tarbolton Lodge on one occasion, and Major Weir was insistant that I sat in Rabbie Burns chair!
regards
Rev Mary McLauchlan (revmother2)
