Caithness / Mary Manson and John Smith Caithness
« on: Thursday 09 April 09 13:37 BST (UK)  »
My G.G.G. Grandmother was Mary Manson born in Caithness about 1825 and Married John Smith from Dumfriesshire.

In 1861 she lived in Kirkbean with my G.G. Grandfather, William Smith and Agnes Wallace Smith. Agnes emigrated to Australia in the 1870s.

Interested in any info whatsoever, Thanks.

Hi,

Just looking at this thread and noticed a reference to Mary Manson.
She must have married a few times I think.
The Mary Manson in my tree was born in Caithness about 1825 and Married John Smith. In 1861 she lived in Kirkbean with my G.G. Grandfather, William Smith and Agnes Wallace Smith. Agnes emigrated to Australia in the 1870s.

Just wondered if any of this was relevant or made any sense?

Cheers

Gary

Flintshire / Re: Robert Jones and Jane Mattes

Thanks for your help Paul, very much appreciated.

I am now only 90% certain that these are my GGG Grandparents. The family I refer to appear in the 1871 and 1881 census.
Robert was from St Asaph,Flintshire and Jane from Llanfairtalhaiarn, Denbighshire. They had 6 children, Jane, Thomas, Elizabeth, Maria, Mary and Sarah.  Jane junior was born about 1861/1862
so I estimated their marriage would be about 1861.
According to my searches, the only Robert Jones who married during this year from the Holywell area was to a Jane Mattes. Your resource seems more detailed than mine, are there any others I have missed?

It is strange that I cannot find any reference to any Jane Mattes in any 1841 or 1851 census.

Thanks again for your help, all contributions gratefully received!

Looking for any info on my GGG Granfather Robert Jones and Jane Mattes who married at Nercwys St Mary around 1861. Jane was born in Llanfairtalhaiarn Denbighshire.
Mattes is not such a common name in Wales, or England, I think it is Austrian or German origin.

Thanks,

Gary
