England / Re: William Ludlow Hudson 1777-1865

Thank you.  So far, nothing is known about William’s first wife or whether there were any children.  There are “Hodgson” families originally from Yorkshire who were living in Cumberland County at the same time as William L.  I don’t know whether this is why the surname Hudson is sometimes written as Hodgson.

Thank you!!  I have been in contact with other family members but no additional information seems to be there.  I have done a few DNA tests but have only matched so far with my Nova Scotia cousins.

There was a migration of tenant farmers from Yorkshire to Cumberland County, Nova Scotia & area from 1773-1776.  From what I have been able to discern is that some possibly were from North Yorkshire -- eg., Rillington, Hawnby, Grange, Thorpebassett, Kirkheaton areas.  I know that William Ludlow Hudson was born after this migration but wonder whether friends or relatives of his family emigrated during this time.

Thank you!!  I understand but I was hoping to possibly find a marriage record for sometime in the 1790's or perhaps find someone who has McIntoshes who came to Nova Scotia.  There were quite a few families who came to the Pictou area but I haven't been able to find a connection between them.

Scotland / Jennet McIntosh 1773

Hello, I am trying to find info on a Jennet McIntosh b. 1773-1852 in either Perthshire or Inverness-shire.  In 1801, she and her husband Donald Smith emigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada, and settled in Mt Thom, Pictou County, NS.  Donald Smith was born in Perthshire ca. 1762-1843.  I believe there was  one daughter born in Scotland, Elizabeth in 1798, while the others were born at Mt Thom.  I believe that Jennet McIntosh may possibly be related to the Chisholms of Inverness.

I have tried Scotlands People and other resources bu haven been able to in any birth or marriage records for Jennet McIntosh or Donald Smith.

Thank you for any assistance!!

Hello, I am trying to find information on a William Ludlow Hudson b. 1777 in Yorkshire, England.  When he married Catherine Glennie 8 Oct 1835 in Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, William was described as a 57 yr old widower.  I am unsure of his exact date or place of birth but his record of death in 1865 indicates that he was born in 1777 in Yorkshire, England.  I have tried looking for his first marriage record in England but not sure if that is where his first marriage took place.  Children born in NS were John William, Mary Elizabeth, Isabella, possibly William, Charles Edward Richard Ray, George, Llewellyn, Catherine Tabitha, Donald Glennie Daniel, Annie Eliza and Sarah Jane (my line).

I often see the last name spelled as Hodgson - is this an alternative spelling for Hudson?

Hello, I was wondering whether the Dewar families who lived in Fife originally came from Perthshire? I am still searching for my Dewar family -- Alexander Dewar & unknown McGregor -- Alexander's wife was related to the McGregor/Graeme family of Fowlis Wester, Perthshire, Scotland. Gregor McGregor b. ca. 1752, son of Alexander & Margaret was a maternal uncle of Alexander Dewar's son, John, who emigrated to Nova Scotia.  I have searched ScotsPeople, fam.search, ancestry, etc. and have done a number of DNA tests.

Family History Beginners Board / Donald W Smith & Jennet McIntosh

Hello, I am trying to find information on my 3rd great grandparents who emigrated from Scotland to Mt Thom, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1801:  Donald W Smith and Jennet Mc/MacIntosh.

I believe Donald W Smith ca. 1776-1843 was from Rannoch, Perthshire, Scotland.  I am not quite sure where Jennet McIntosh ca. 1772-1852 was from -- most likely Perthshire too but maybe roots in Invernessshire.  Donald W Smith was one of the first landholders and farmers to settle at Mt Thom.  He and Jennet raised 5, possibly 6, daughters - Sarah b. 1804 married Andrew Creighton originally from Dumfries (my line); Nancy b. 1806 married Abiel Brown, Gracietta b. 1816 married Alexander Morrison, Abigail b. 1817 m. John Sinclair (he emigrated 1831) ; Elizaabeth b. 1798 Scotland m. Donald Munro; and ?Jennet?.

I know there are a lot of Smiths but am hoping someone might recognize this family!!

Thank you.
