Thank you Debra. Gosh, yes! I think that is him.  That is definitely the date of his death - 13th of April 1922 - and it does make him 71 when he died!  That original post on the Ancestry page I was looking at must to be incorrect.  He must have been born in 1851.  Thanks also for the heads up re: the printout.  Will look into this.

And thank you "Mckha489"  and "heywood"  - That Australian/Queensland connection would make a lot of sense! That's probably why I have been having trouble finding them. The confusing part has also come as a result of Edwin (Phebe's husband) having gone by both 'Edwin' and 'Edward' at different times.  I just need to somehow confirm that they had Leonard, Linda Annie .. and Edwin (among others perhaps), and figure out how Edwin junior ended up in New Zealand.  I don't believe his parents ever settled in New Zealand - the assumption was made that they were still based in the UK.

I am so grateful to everyone who has taken time to answer my posts! :-)  :D ....

Yes, that was what I was meaning.

I am beginning to wonder whether the Somerset part is correct at all.  I also wonder whether Edwin may be listed as Edward?  There are lots of relatives with the name Edward.  I have also seen Pitt recorded as "Pitts" (for other family members).  Argh!

Hi Maureen,
I found the Somerset reference on Ancestry webpage.  They don't seem to have any evidence listed as to where that came from - but it is the only information I have to go on.

Thank you

Thank you all for the replies so far.

The birth date was 1859, but I believe that may have been an approximate.  As an adult, Edwin Pitt and his wife had 12 children between 1886 and 1908 (8 sons and 4 daughters).  His wife was Sarah Elizabeth Holmes, who was born in New Zealand (her parents were John Holmes and Harriet Anne Baker).  He died on the 13th of April 1922 in Christchurch, New Zealand.  I have no information on when he left England.

Hi there

I am looking records for Edwin Pitt (born 1859).  It appears he was born in Somerset.  The only information I have on his parents are that their names were Edward Pitt (father), and Phoebe (mother).  Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you,
Evelyn

Hi there,
I am following this post with interest - My great grandmother was Elsie May Bryant, and I may be able to help with information on descendants in NZ, if you are still looking for it.   Cheers, Evelyn

My Grandfather is Douglas Haig Keith Stuart (known as Doug) as mentioned by a couple of people on this post.  If you would like any further information about him, or about our Christchurch based relatives (Charles' children/grandchildren), please get in touch.  I am just starting my journey into my family history, as of today - and would be keen to get in touch with any relatives.

Thank you,
Evelyn Stuart

p.s.  Thank you "minniehaha" and "Janette" for the link to the Death notice, and the WWI file for Charles.  I hadn't seen either of those yet!  They are amazing.  I never would have guessed, at starting this journey, how emotional I would be at seeing items like those for the first time!  Truly grateful.

Thank you all for your quick responses.  I do actually know some of the details for Charles Stuart, and have visited his grave in Christchurch, but just don't really know much about his siblings or his parents.  He arrived in New Zealand in 1903 and met my great-grandmother, Elizabeth.  He fought in WWI, and he died at age 60 in 1943.  I saw older information posted by another member on this site (who was a great niece/nephew of him), and am hoping they might see this post.  Up until today, I didn't realise he had any siblings!!  He didn't appear to have maintained any contact with his family.  If anyone has any further insight into my family - or might possibly be related - I would love to hear from you! Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
