Has anyone come across this unusual surname please? I spotted it on a marriage certificate of 1764. Many thanks for any information. The writing is not 100% clear so the name may be slightly different or it may be a phonetic spelling of ??

Genni You are right I cannot find my record of Fanny in 1881 - memory fagiling. Yes she could have gone with another family and maybe her full name was not listed on the boat? The search goes on. Thanks for help.

HI ive been away for a few days. Yes the entry for Ormuz 1891 looks promising but I noticed there were two children listed  and a process of elimination suggests they were travelling alone unlikely or with Fanny. I then checked Census in Uk and found such a family with ages and names checked. This was a fanny with married name of austin. I checked her back to childhood to make sure.
Also I checked the records in Victoria you mentioned but nothing there in marriages or deaths. The mystery continues !

Yes thank you his son had a middle name of Francis ( not shown in the 1841 census) but turns up in later counts.

many thanks for this.

Thanks . The UK census records show no middle names even as young girl but I will follow this up many thanks. Family story is that Fanny "went into the bush" and at that stage ( not sure when) she was unmarried. This story has been handed down so the accuracy and precise meaning is uncertain

Hi my great aunt Fanny Austin left UK in the 1880s (she is on the 1881 UK census) But not 1891). family member remembers being told that she went to Australia but nothing afterwards. I found one Fanny Austin arriving 1891 as assisted passage but she turned out to be a different one. Her birth year was 1855 and came from Lancashire UK Any help appreciated.
