Essex / Re: 1953 Essex floods: Stanley Gray age 47 MOD war department 'officer'

Thank you for your kind reply Arthur - Luckily later this very evening both Leah and I have begun discussions and the path seems favourable that with the information to hand will enable Stanley Gray to earn the recognition his sacrifice deserves.

Leah, tried sending this as personal message at 6.06 pm today sunday 21st. Informed "the inbox "is full". Therefore likely as a new member you don't know how to operate the system. I've explained more in the message below on that point.
So I'm leaving this text open to all to read as I have no other means to contact you, and as said there's no progress possible until you make further access to rootschat. Please bear in mind I am getting on in years right now and may not be available always to assist you.

Was hoping I'd get something back Leah, the case is still "active" as far as my research work is concerned and it was live on site through to my 2nd message which followed my direct personal message at 3.20pm when I noticed your connection (green light) was shining below your entry. If you need further help in respect of dealing with personal messages don't hesitate to go to help item on the top line and look for customer support.
I can't do anything more - such as contact you beyond personal message sent before 3pm. The person who has/buys a copy of the death certificate holds the key which will ensure progress is made once they inform me of the contents. best regards,

Hello Leah, I was the originator of this item. I have sent you a personal message now.

Thanks first responders. I've mentioned Rootschat.com as both a welcoming and use site that they might choose for their very worthy causes.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Westminster Police Court Records
« on: Thursday 11 January 24 23:05 GMT (UK)  »
From some partial 'Law Directory pages I have, the Westminster Police Court was certainly at Vincent Square by the mid 1850's Vincent Square, SW1 through at least until 1905. By the time of 1920 it was found at Rochester Row, SW1 - much later being re-titled Westminster Magistrate's Court* at a time when police courts ceased their function
.
The records* as described here below by TNA are held by the London Metropolitan Archives in Clerkenwell.

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/8ea89e16-4a69-48d1-8de1-537b01b89149

However, I have found some newspaper titles often report cases, some preceding being sent for trial:
The British Newspaper Archive is a starting point to then compare to the FindMyPast section they have scanned.
see this link. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/titles/s
This link to the BNA free search titles is helpful. Search for titles 'South London xxxxxxxxx'. Another resource for newspaper 'West London xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' which covered the adjacent area to Westminster  may be fruitful. These two particular areas were well served by reporters being sent out on a regular basis to record court cases. Something we could well do with today but staff and shorthand transcribing appears to be a lost art.

This is not meant to be entirely flippant but given the conjecture of one red-banner tabloid tomorrow(thursday) - the World has a mere 2 centuries before it expires.

Has anyone yet developed a foolproof method of preserving any archive document before the apocalypse?

Flintshire / WW2 Evacuated expectant mothers in Rhyl, N Wales.
« on: Tuesday 24 October 23 18:40 BST (UK)  »
Just in case this strikes a chord with anyone else who may have discovered birth details which match for their ancestor during WW2.

I have now traced a mother-to-be (from Edmonton, N.London) who gave birth in May 1941 at Carftrefle, Palace Road, Rhyl. Registration District "St. Asaph". Property located 1/2 mile inland from the coast.

A long journey and not exactly, in hindsight, totally safe from German bombing around Liverpool and Birkenhead, especially during the early part of the war(pre 1942)!

Fortunately employing google maps "Cartrefle" Rhyl comes up as an elderly residential home - although shown as permanently closed now. Possibly? there were covid difficulties during the pandemic.
