I'm sorry I don't think I can help you.
I'm a little rusty as I haven't been on Rootschat for some time but I do have information on a Martha Jackson born about 1837 in Belton Lincolnshire, daughter of Ann (nee Richardson) and William Jackson. She moved around Lincolnshire mainly but lived in Yorkshire at times. She had a colourful life. If you think this might be of interest please let me know.
Cheers

Longtime no see!

We have had a difficult few years and the genealogy has taken a very back seat but I think we're moving out of the mire now. (We've spent this last year 'running'..... Bali, NSW, Paris, London........ I think just to affirm we're not beaten. Anyway, new house, new life and calm prevails.)
And then, out of the ether emerges a new contact and with him, this photograph.

The groom is Richard Hutton Hepplewhite (b1878) ; yes, another one! The woman on his left is Jane Ann (Hepplewhite) Cox, my Grandma. These I am 100% sure about.

The really interesting one is the elderly man in the bowler hat. This can only be the groom's father: Robert Hepplewhite (b1840), the youngest child of  Mary (Hutton) Hepplewhite (b1791) and William Hepplewhite (1788) of Co Durham. I think his wife [Mary (Hay) Hepplewhite b1842] is in the back row in the old-fashioned bonnet but this is conjecture on my part. The other young men are probably the groom's other brothers: William and Richard. The sisters, Jessie and Georgina, are probably there but I don't know where.

The resemblance of some of my uncles to Robert is simply amazing and I wonder if you'll find the same.

The bride's family (top hats, butcher), were a notch above the Hepps (bowler hats) and it's starting to look as if this marriage was arranged by Earl Fitzwilliam after the bride (Alice Hesketh) gave birth to Earl Fitzwilliam's son. How about that for a curved ball? Couldn't see that coming! My contact, name of Hepplewhie (but not a real one) led me to a book: Black Diamonds : The Rise and Fall of a Great English Dynasty by Catherine Baily. I found it rivetting but rather nauseating at times. It explained much in my background.

I sent you a personal letter with my e- mail address  (your having sent and received two posts) but I'm not sure you received it.
I want to send you information I have back to Durham and Bedfordshire.
Perhaps if you added a third post (in the rules ) it might work.
All the best,
Pat.
PS I do realise you could have been busy.

Dear Lionel K,

Lovely to hear from you. It is ages since I looked at my genealogy and I scarcely know where to begin.

I have quite a lot on the Hepplewhites and would be happy to send it all to you. I even have photos. I did speak to an elderly man in Rotherham on the phone a couple of years ago but made a mess of it and he was very suspicious. He did tell me he'd thrown away all the photos!

My Grandma (Jane Ann) was Richard's sister. My Mum was her last child (b 1912) Mum and Dad had two daughters: Pat and Jan. I am Pat (b1940).

Please contact me on my e-mail:

Dear Wozzle and Barbara,

Thank you for your help.

You are quite right, the family did emigrate. The parents were Thomas and Martha. They had a son John die in NSW in 1861. Later 8 more chn were born in NSW.

William and Richard were born in Wingate in 53 and 54. They were baptised in B Auckland in 55. Some of Thomas' family had moved there.

I'm searching for the births of a Thomas born ~1857, Mary born ~ 1859 and James who died in NSW in 67 but doesn't seem to have been born there. (There was probably a 56 baby also , given the pattern.) Anyway, I just wondered if they'd moved to Gateshead on their way to Oz. The Margaret Eleanor was a newie but Thomas' next sister was an Eleanor and he and Martha did produce a Margaret later on.

I'm just amazed they managed to emigrate. How did they do it? Where did they get the money? Don't know enough about it yet. I wondered if they were brought by mine owners. Thomas was a miner in Durham and continued a miner in Newcastle NSW for the next 43 years.

Anyway, thank you both again. Hope you don't think I deceived you. I never thought you'd look at the census but it would be the logical step given that I hadn't mentioned emmigration.

Cheers
Pat
This 61 family is definitely the same clan ............ Benwell and lots of familiar names. Thank you for that.

Durham Lookup Requests / Hepplewhite births Gateshead 1856
« on: Friday 19 December 08 01:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. Happy Christmas to you! :)

Can anyone find the parents' names (first names are fine)of the 2 Hepplewhite children registered in the December Quarter 1856 in Gateshead?  The children are Thomas and Margaret Eleanor. I'm hoping for parents named Thomas and Martha and I've tried IGI and the Bishop's transcripts on line but the latter don't go as far ar 1856.

I feel it's not possible without my buying the certificates but nothing ventured.......

Thank you for your help
