The Common Room / Re: naming problem, help
« on: Thursday 22 June 06 03:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi there Meg.........It happens all the time........My gggrandfather had a child Elizabeth Jane b1846...d1866(1st Marriage) then Elizabeth Jane b1868 and then Eliza b1870...........they must have been short of names or named the children out of respect or in remembrance of the one that died

My son Jason married a Canadian girl who came to Australia on holidays, her name is Kathy.
Kathy has sisters Karen, Kelly,Kym and brothers Karl, Kevin,Kenny and Bonnie who was born first from a diferent marriage.

I would find this confusing if I was the mum or dad in the heat of a discussion trying to get the right name out at the right time!!!

                                                   Regards  Jack

Doing my research from Australia, and via the net,is it possible to get copies of death certificates via the net and pay by credit card and get the information via email rather than snail mail?

Also what information would one expect to gain from these certificates........Can someone please help?

The Common Room / 1841 census question!!!!
« on: Wednesday 31 May 06 08:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi there gang........Whilst doing searches of the 1841 census I found an entry that has me baffled!!

Can anybody tell me what NK stands for? In one search a family member was recorded as NK aged 30 yrs old.

I then put in the search engine the letters NK for the surname and came up with 361 different peoples name recorded as NK.........THis has me stumped.

Can anybody enlighten me on what this means.

                Regards Jack Ricks
