Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: PARSONS of Trowbridge
« on: Saturday 14 July 18 20:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Phil,

This is a very tardy reply for which I apologize and I thank you for your input.

Since my first posting I have found the marriage:

Samuel PARSONS married Mary TAYLOR 17 Aug 1828 Abergavenny, Monmouth, England (sic) (FamilySearch)

In every census record that I have Samuel PARSONS says he was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.  I am not the only researcher looking for his baptism, and all continguous parishes have been searched.  We have com to the conclusion that Samuel's parents were non-conformists and we have just not found the correct non-conformist church records.

What Samuel & Mary were doing in Abergavenny is anyone's guess as they baptised most of their children in Hilperton, Wiltshire before moving to Newport, Monmouthshire between 1835 and 1841 and that is where they spent the rest of their lives.

Samuel was a plasterer and concensus is that he went to Newport for work.

If anyone ever finds a baptism c. 1807 for my Samuel, I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Valerie,

I have no way of knowing how old you posting is, so I hope it reaches you.  I believe you and I are researching the same family, so thank you for giving me Sarah's last name.  I am a direct descendant of James MERRETT the son of Thomas & Sarah, so I'd really appreciate it if you got in touch with me.  I live in Canada and my e-Mail address is E-mail address removed as per rootschat policy.  Please use the Private message system

My GARDNERs in Bristol were Shoemakers.  William GARDNER born c. 1774 goodness knows where married a Mary ?? born Haverfordwest, Pembroke Wales.

William died in 1838 in Bristol but his wife and children were also in the industry.  From the 1841 Census:

1841 Census:
Mary GARDENER, 50, shoe B(inder), not born in county
Caroline, 22, shoe B(inder), not born in county
Thomas 16, cordwainer, not born in county
[27] Sussex Street, St. Philip & Jacob without, Bristol

The surname was spelled GARDINER in other census records and GARDNER on death certificates.  I have never found baptism for any of them as I don't know where they came from.

In the 1851 Census Mary GARDNER nee ?? says she was born in Haverfordwest, Pembroke, Wales.

If anyone reading this has this couple in the ancestry, please contact me.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / DARE in Stockland
« on: Saturday 17 July 10 15:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi Angela,

Thanks so much for that information.  Perhaps the parish church wasn't there until 1640 and they were baptising elsewhere.  There's no rush on this, but could you pick out all the DARE entries for me and send them to me directly at

Re:  Stockland Parish Registers

Angela,

Could you look up the early Stockland Parish Registers for any reference to the surname DARE.  I am particularly interested in the period 1500 to 1600.

Regards,

Nancy

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / MERRETT of Corsham, Wiltshire
« on: Sunday 15 April 07 23:17 BST (UK)  »
I would like to find the baptism of James MERRETT who according to census records was born between 1840 and 1845 in Corsham, Wiltshire.  His parents were James S. MERRETT of Corsham and Charlotte SALTER of Isle of Wight.

There is nothing on FreeBMD for a James MERRETT registered Chippenham (District for Corsham) in that date range.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / PARSONS of Trowbridge
« on: Sunday 15 April 07 22:50 BST (UK)  »
I would like to find the baptism and parents of Samuel PARSONS born Trowbridge, Wiltshire c. 1807.  Samuel married Mary TAYLOR c. 1827 probably in Trowbridge, although she was born in Bath, Somerset.  The PARSONS left Trowbridge and relocated to Wales, but in all census records he says he was born in Trowbridge.
Finding his marriage in Trowbridge would be a bonus.

Many thanks.

Hi Deb,

You're right!  That's what the marriage certificate says.  It also says she is a widow and does not give her father's name.

As I said before, we should continue this conversation via eMail.  Please eMail me at Moderator Comment: email address removed to prevent spam and other abuses. Please use the secure personal message system to share email addresses and other personal material. Thank You and I will send you copies of the certificates where her name is cited differently.
