Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: Geo Marshall b1813 Headley, Hampshire
« on: Friday 29 January 10 22:53 GMT (UK)  »
George Marshall bapt 21 Feb 1813 married Charlotte Aldred 13 Oct 1835.  He is my 3 X Gt Grandfather. We know it was this George as his abode is the same as Sister Harriett .He was convicted 18 Oct 1847 at Winchester for two thefts of Wheat and sentence to 7 years Transportation. He arrived in Van Dieman'S Land & Norfolk Island in 1850 and that is where he remained dying in Hobart 03 Sep 1880 of cancer. His Wife Charlotte bigamously married Edward Shrubb some 15 years her junior in Farnborough Register Office 17 Nov 1866. We Know it is this George from the Transportation papers which list's his wife as Charlotte, and siblings Thomas, William & Richard and Sisters Harriet, Lucy, Mary & A.N. Other (Unreadable). It is interesting that he list's a brother's as William. From the list of siblings we can tell his Parents are John & Anne, however there were 2 John Marshall's of Headley at that time,  both married to Anne's, One is Anne Spooner, the other was not married in Headley and maiden name remains a mystery. Neither John though baptised a son William, however Anne Spooner had a baseborn son William one year before she married a John Marshall. As this was before civil registration none of us Marshall descendants from a John & Anne. will ever know for sure which family they came down from :-)

I Cannot help you regarding Mary, but I can help if you want it, going back

Your Henry Gunter was bapt St. Stephens Baughurst 29 Oct 1829 Parents David c1794 & Jane

On Census 1851 & 61 David gives his birth location as Aldermaston, which means he links to my Gunter ancestors, unfortunately I cannot find a baptism for him to link him and his descendants to a particular Branch. I realise I can add him to my database, as I am pretty sure (95%) the Mary Alloway he married is the daughter of Jacob Alloway & Hannah West and I have that line of Alloway (formerly known as Scot) back to the early 1700's.

Regarding 1901 in those days the workhouse was also the infirmary, and given his age, he may well have been there for health reasons especially if Mary was working away from the area. The workhouse evolved to the Battle Hospital (Where I was born) and now sadly a housing estate.

Hi I'm Waiting for Wales 1911 before getting the cert for Lucy, so I cannot help you go forwards, but I have a lot of information on the Gunters 204 of them in fact (I am descended from the Gunter line) on my website at www.bobhutchins.me.uk

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Thomas Burrow(s) & Hannah Aldred
« on: Friday 03 April 09 15:11 BST (UK)  »
Is there anyone who recognises these two people. Hannah Aldred c1822 Headley Hampshire born at Hearne dau of James Aldred & Hannah White she married Thomas Burrow son of Thomas &resident of Headley on the 5th Jan 1839, All Saints, Headley, but that is the last I can find of them, They don't figure on any census, and there are no burials that seem to match in Headley, or baptisms for children. Any information on them would be greatly appreciated.

Berkshire / Re: LAWRENCE Family of Thatcham
« on: Friday 15 September 06 23:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi Penlee
I have Just read your thread from earlier this month.
In my database I have a William Lawrence born c1815 Thatcham. In 1840 he married a Sophia Hearne nee Nicholes, although I suspect but cannot prove he may have had another wife prior as in 1851 he has a son living with the family born 1834. I have not been able to track down parents or siblings for him and wondered if any of this sounded familiar.

Kind regards
Bob
