Debbie,

Paul is a match on Ancestry to my father Ray Roberts. My Great Grandmother was Lizzie Deacon from Sussex.

Maybe these different Deacons are related as I have always thought.

Regards

Paul

Hi

Very interested in this post as my 3 x grandparents are the James Deacon and Elizabeth Mayo mentioned within these posts. I have carried out a lot of research on my families and am interested to hear from anybody who have the same names within their lines. My Deacon family travelled mostly the Southern Counties and settled from Portsmouth to Surrey. My Deacon line settled in Worthing Sussex and the Women were the Flower Sellers and the men were General Dealer/Horse Dealers. Names I have on my tree are Harris, Beeney, Johnson, Dighton, Smith, Rhoades, Bacon, Barber, Ripley, Eastwood to name a few. I have also had my AncestryDNA done and have DNA matches to Bowers, Stanley, Lovell and Boswell families (how they fit into my paper trail yet I do not know)

Hi
I have only just come across this post but i have had my Ancestry DNA done and i match a person who has Obed Jones and family in their tree. Obed first wife was Betsey Harris of Heathfield who i think is my link to Obed as my line is the Harris family of Sussex. Betsey died in 1902 and the following year Obed married Selina Tomsett.
I am trying to establish who Betsey parents were??? Any ideas anybody

My direct line is to Elias Harris who was born in 1836 in Sussex. He is my 3 xgrandfather and married I think an Elizabeth Midmore. Have you come across Elias in your Harris line.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Help with John Deacon document

It is an asylum record. This entry was written on the bottom of his father Frederick Deacon who died Nov 9th 1909.
There are no headers to link it back too.

The first 3 words are definitely Son John Deacon but that is all I can read

Many thanks

Hi

Do you know any of the names of your Beeney family. I have the Beeney family in my tree. My 3xGreat Aunt Emma Rhoades married Robert Beeney. The Rhoades and Beeney family were Horse Dealers and were based in Sussex and Surrey.

Thomas Roberts my Great Grandfather son of Mary Roberts married Lizzie Deacon. Thomas was a Fish Hawker and Lizzie and her sisters were Flower Sellers in Worthing.

I also have Celia Roberts in my tree as she married Henry Deacon and i am related to these Deacons. End up with Flower Shop in Portsmouth i think.

Thanks for the replies

I have found out a bit more about Mary since i posted. She died in 1929 in Crowborough, Sussex and my Great Uncle Fred Roberts was the Witness.  Edward Bacon then moved to Timbercroft Lane in Plumstead and  lived with Mary and Edward's son Fred who had married Dorcas Swan.

I have also been contacted by Caroline Bacon and Mary and Edward are her Great Grandparents. Like me she does not know much about Mary but was told the same story as my family in that she came from Ireland and landed in Wales. She then took the name Roberts and travelled across Wales and England to Fairwarp in Sussex. Why she took the name Roberts and travelled across the country i do not know.

Rebekah do you have a Jessie Roberts in your line as i have a couple of newspaper articles where Edward Bacon along with Jessie were arrested together
