Hi Ian,
Thanks for your reply.  We have a copy of Hugh Allison's 'Roots of Stone' and have indeed met Hugh when he was working at Culloden.

So far though, no-one has been able to come up with what happened to John of Auchanlochie in the later years of his life.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

David

Hi CaroleW,

Thank you for all your fantastic work. It is marvellous!
The only mention that we have on official documents concerning Donald Kerr is on my grandmothers Marriage Cert (28.12.1900 at Balintore, Fearn) where he is named as her father along with Fillina Morrison as her mother.
I have checked the records of the censuses on Scotlands People as you suggested and they confirm the details which you have supplied.

Both Lily's birth Cert. (1882 in Balintore, Fearn) and Finlay's birth cert. (1888 in Balintore, Fearn) show them as illigitimate. On the first one, Fillina is described as a Domestic Servant and in the second as a Fisherman's daughter.
I am passing through Inverness next weekend, so I shall try to pop in to the Highland Archive Centre to see if Ann Fraser can also shed some light on further info.

Thank you again for all your help.
Best regards,

David

Hi ev,

Oops! a silly mistake!  The date is obviously wrong.  On his daughter's marriage certificate dated 1900, she is aged 19, and gives her father's name as Donald Kerr, Police Constable. So I suppose his birth date could really be about 1860?

Original info of 1873 supplied by someone on Genes Reunited.

Back to square 1!

Thank you for your reply anyway.

How do I remove this search from the system?

David

Hi Carole,

Thank you for your quick response.

We know that he had two children, Lillias Morrison (b. 05.12.1882 in Balintore) and Finlay Morrison (b. 04.07.1888 also in Balintore) whose mother was Fillina Morrison (b. 19.03.1863  d. 01.11.1924 at Jemimaville, Ross-Shire)

However, we have not found Donald on any local censuses of that time.

We also know that Finlay Morrison emigrated to Canada and married an Amy McWilliams on 28.04.1917 in Toronto.
We think that he died in the 1960s although we cannot find a death in the Canadian records.

Please can anyone help?

I am looking for info on Donald Kerr, who was born 25th May 1873 at Tain.  Mother was Catherine Kerr.

He became a Police Constable, but has completely disappeared from the scene.  Highland Constabulary Genealogy Section in Inverness, and the Highland Archive have no trace of him in their old records.
Mystery!

David

Hi IanB,

Thank you for your reply.

John indeed married Barbara his first wife in 1775, in fact there are two Barbaras.  His first wife had 4 children, Isobel, Elizabeth, James and Ann.
His second wife, who he married in 1786,  also called Barbara had 11 children, Alexander, Barbara, Marion, Donald, Dollie and John (Twins) Ann, Hector, James, Bessy and Janet.
Hector is my gg grandfather and he lived in Tain, married Ann Mackay from Lairg, and had  10 children,
David, Alexander Gair (my g grandfather), Alexander, Donald, Margaret, Barbra, Elspat, Isabella, John and George.

We have details of all of their births, and marriage of Alexander Gair, but John of Auchanlochie is proving to be an enigma.

If you can give me a link to the website concerning Prince Edward Island, that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your help so far.

sincerely,

David

Thank you for your reply Graham. We have been through all of the records that we can find at both Edinburgh and the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness. - but as yet, to no avail.

Hopefully someone in RootChat can come up with something.
Best Regards,

David
