Thanks very much for all your replies, I have all the information you have replied with, but on the death certificates all it says is killed in action.  I have the information off the cwgc site, but I haven't found any war diaries where would I find these.

My maternal great uncle, George Jones born in Hanley Stoke-on-Trent, was kia in France 3/10/1918 age 24, and in my research have come across a lot of deaths on that particular day does anyone know of any significance battles which took place on that day in which so many soldiers died.

I also have a paternal great uncle William Henry Leese born Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, kia in Mesapotamia 31/8/1918 age 23. Does anyone know of any special battles which took place on that day.
