Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Baptism Entry 1705

Thanks for the replies. Interestingly findmypast also have it as Mary ALSOP, so I think it is definitely a case of local knowledge rather than trying to just transcribe possibilities.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Baptism Entry 1705
« on: Monday 25 December 23 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
The bottom entry in this list of baptisms from St Oswald, Ashbourne, Derbyshire in February 1705/06 could be mine.
Freereg have interpreted it as "Mary daughter of Tho ALSOP of Ashbourne, Notes: ALSOP als GRAY".
But it, to me, reads, as "Mary daughter of Tho GRAY als? Alsop a? Chappel in this Parish of Ashbourne".
According to genuki: Alsop-en-le-dale, a chapelry in the Parish of Ashbourne. So I think it is Mary GRAY of Alsop en le dale being baptised.

In which case Mary is not the Mary ALLSOP I am looking for as she is actually Mary GRAY and I am back to the drawing board.

Thoughts please. Thank you, Mitch

I am getting the same offer a as Sandra, but am only 2 weeks into a 12 month worldwide subscription. Obviously something has gone wrong with a new 'feature'!

Sussex / Re: Anyone heard of 'Beading'

Yes, thanks Pheno, I noticed afterwards.  I have added 'Beading(Beeding - Upper or Lower?), Sussex' as the reference on the Marriage on my family tree, pending a further miracle as to which one it is!

Sussex / Anyone heard of 'Beading'
« on: Monday 21 August 23 17:39 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone relate 'Parish of Beading? in ye County of Sussex' to any place in Sussex? The item is a 1747 marriage in the City of London. In 1754 I record the couples first Child Baptised in Wiston, Sussex. Thanks.

Stirlingshire / Re: alexander Stewart married Margaret Morison or Morisone
« on: Friday 03 March 23 19:40 GMT (UK)  »
An Alexander STEWART married a Margret MORISON 16 Feb 1694 at Kincardine, Perthshire. So you are looking for a birth/baptism for Alexander prior to 1680.

POSSIBLE? Children of this couple:
Marjorie STEUART to Alexr. STEUART and Margaret MORESON. 15 Jul 1696 at Kilmadock, Perthshire.
Alexander STEWART to Alexander STEWART and Margaret MORISON. 01 Feb 1702 at Kippen, Stirlingshire.
Walter STEUART to Alexander STEUART and Margaret MORISONE. 08 Aug 1708 at Kippen.

In theory if Alexander born 1702 is the first Son then Alexander who marries 1694 should have a Father called Alexander. His Wife should have parents called Walter(or possibly Alexander) and Marjorie. As the number of children/records is limited this naming pattern may not follow.
