Durham / Re: Wilson in Darlington
« on: Wednesday 17 March 10 18:47 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Trish for taking such an interest and so quickly.
Mary Wilson had a dau Hannah who married my 2x gt. Thomas Dobinson...the Joseph with her in 1841 was gt. grandfather, Joseph Wilson D.  Hannah in 1881 gives Doncaster as POB, but in others, as Smeaton.  She was actually christened at Gt. Smeaton in Nov 1811 and a brother William, in 1816. We have an original (1876) handwritten note by the then vicar, giving details of the marriage 13 Nov 1829 at Eryholme, of Thomas D & Hannah Wilson and a similar extraction of her bapt.
In 1841, next door to mother Mary Wilson in Silver St Darlington, is a Thomas Wilson and it would be my guess that he is related... possibly another sibling.

In 1841, Mary Wilson is shown age 60 in Silver Street, plus a lodger, and Mary's grandson Joseph Dobinson.  In the next house is a Thomas Wilson with wife & family. Does anyone have any links or further knowledge of this family?

In 1934, James White married Helen Spensley.

Might I take you up on your kind offer and ask for any of the Dobinson entries for Wolsingham?
Thanks so much.

Hi,

Sorry...fingers not in sync with brain.

Marriage date correct; birth years should read 1914 and 1911.

Thomas was my great uncle, but none of the family seem to know what happened to him and I suspect I may have cousins somewhere (if only one of them were interested in family history :-))

Thomas Preston married Elizabeth Jane Watts 5 May 1906 at Claypath Congregational Church. Two of their children were Thomas 1814 and Mary E 1811.

Thomas was born Swaledale but living at Thorps Yard, Byers Green at time of marriage.
Elizabeth was age 19 and of Langley Moor, Brandon.

Would love to hear from anyone with links/more information

Who are you looking for in the records.  I have transcript of some of them.
Most early Leyburn 'events' took place at Wensley.

I'd be most interested to know of any details and sources you have for this Spensley family.
When William and Mary married at WW, William was of Aysgarth.  They baptised a son Timothy the following year at Aysgarth......they were living at Carperby.
Somehow I think they must fit into my family (I have both Spensley and Croft links).
