Thanks for that I'll follow up on it.

Durham / Vera Bainbridge - marriage
« on: Sunday 24 January 16 03:57 GMT (UK)  »
G'day

I believe that Vera Bainbridge married a someone Baker in 1939. I came to this conclusion as the 1939 register shows a Vera Baker [the right age] residing in Durham with George T A & Edith Bainbridge [my Vera's mother and father]. Durham County Council online records have a marriage for a Vera Bainbridge in 1939 but there are only two other names cited on that page and neither is a Baker. A search of the usual suspects [Free BMD & Find My Past] has proved fruitless. Any ideas, other than purchasing the certificate?

G'day

As I indicated I was trying to establish if Tom was the son of Joseph Dimmock [1851-1927] and Emma Clee [1836-1914].

If this is, indeed, so then he is the brother of my great great grandfather William Dimmock [1856-1915].

I was born in England but have lived in Australia for most of life.

Thanks. That's helped solve the surname problem but unfortunately I'm still stuck with the Catherine conundrum. Can't seem to find her after the marriage.

C'est la vie

Found a reference to a James Quaife, as a witness at an inquest, in New Norfolk 1888. Given that Carline got married in New Norfolk he may be the right one or a direct relation. Still chipping away at this one.

Thanks for the assist people. It's taken me the best part of a decade to trace any of the comings and goings of my 2xgreat grandmother's siblings so when I fluked on Caroline [I actually googled another of her sisters Charlotte whose name it seems was tattooed on Caroline's arm] I didn't expect too much. Anyway I've got some more Scholeys to add to the tree as I didn't have some of the siblings identified on her records. Maybe I'll get lucky again in another 10 years.

G'day

Trying to find out more about a Caroline Scholey who was transported to Tasmania in 1849. She was at the Cascades Female Factor. According to Tasmanian records she married a James Quiet in 1854. Then it comes to a grinding halt. Nothing. Any ideas?

G'day

Thanks for the information.

First up apologies for misnaming Louisa as Lucy in my earlier post.

The Thomas I'm researching was born in Rowley Regis in 1875 [a son of Joseph & Emma].

This group of Dimmocks emigrated to Australia in the 1880s but Joseph, Emma & some of their kids returned to England in 1892. Thomas doesn't appear to be with them.

There is a tree on Ancestry that suggests the Thomas who married Louisa was the son of Joseph & Emma.

That's all I really know.

G'day

I'm trying to establish if the Thomas Dimmock who married Lucy Dufty, at the Wesleyan Church in Huntly on 20th March 1901, is part of my extended tree. Without purchasing the marriage certificate is there any way I can find out his father's name.
