Kent / Re: Finding the origin of William CLARINGBO[U]LD
« on: Wednesday 03 August 16 06:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi Andrew

Thank you for your Board Post about your 8x Great Grandfather William CLARINGBOLD b.1712.

We have found the above William's 1712 baptism along with his father Thomas' 1711 marriage and 1736 burial, but I'm unaware that we've made any definite progress with Thomas' baptism or parents since. I have a feeling we had identified some potential matches, but had not yet found the confirming linking records.

Hopefully the others in this thread may be able to chip in on this question also.

I think perhaps we need to exchange some info, so I'll private message you with my email and we can chat about it all a bit further too if you like.

Cheers for now, Neil

Limerick / Where in Limerick City was John D TRAND buried in 1854?
« on: Wednesday 16 July 14 14:25 BST (UK)  »
G'day Limerick Board Rootschatters

Where in Limerick City was John D TRAND buried?

Is there anyone out there who can please help me with this problem?

One of my x3 Great-Grandfathers, John D TRAND, died suddenly on Henry Street, in Limerick City on Sunday 11 Dec 1854, whilst walking home from visiting a friend. He was stated as late of Ennis and an accountant. the source for this is the 13 Dec 1854 'Limerick Chronicle' newspaper report, which is on the Limerick City website.

There's a record of a Probate existing for him too. The date is 1852, probably the date of the Will, but I haven't been able to view this record either and find out if the Will and Probate record have survived. This record points to him being late of Lifford, Clare, which is now part of Ennis.

TRAND seems to be a very rare and unusual surname in Ireland, but I have no information on his ancestors at all. He was supposedly married to a Hannah KENNEDY and they had at least four children born in Limerick and Clare between the 1820s-1840s, John, Patrick, Annie and Maria. I have no christenings for the children or marriage or burials for the parents either.

All the four children emigrated to the Victorian Goldfields in Australia during the 1850s.

This may or may not mean anything, but the name in Australia has also at times been recorded as "Le TRAND" or "de Tronde", etc and there's the family story on this line is that we have "French Ancestors". But who knows?

It's difficult to make much progress with research in Ireland from here in Australia without the help of others, so I'd really appreciate any information anyone can dig up on the TRAND family.

Thanks for reading my query and also for the effort anyone puts in for this query  :)

Cheers for now

P.S. I wonder if I should also post this query to the Clare forum? Or can it be tagged there?

Hi Eddie, Tilly and all Rootschatters viewing this thread

Thank you both for all your help.

I'm very pleased to say that my problem has now been solved thanks to both of you and for the Obituary just found by Tilly in the Northern Echo.

I hope I can help you both in the future to solve an Australian research need. Let me know.

Cheers for now in appreciation, Neil

Hi tillypeg

Thanks so much for this information and all your efforts. The funeral notice is very helpful particularly as it mentions family.

I'm still hopeful that someone may find an Obituary in the Cleveland Standard or some other paper, but I guess we'll see.

I'll send you a PM with my email as suggested.

Cheers for now, Neil

Hi Eddy

Thanks so much for your kind help. The family Obituary is what I need. It could appear in one of the papers of the time even up to 2-3 weeks after the incident.

Good hunting and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I really appreciate your efforts Eddy. Thanks.

Cheers for now, Neil

Hi  Drosybont

Thanks so much for going to that effort for me. I know how laborious it can be trawling through microfilm newspapers. It all adds to the picture though, so it's much appreciated.

Thanks too for the other Middlesbrough Evening Gazette suggestion. There could be something in that one or perhaps in 'The Cleveland Standard' if anyone is near the area or somewhere that has these papers.

Is there anyone out there in the Middlesborough or Redcar area that could maybe help?

Many thanks and cheers for now, Neil

1941 REDCAR, YNR, ENGLAND OBITUARY REQUEST  ;D

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an Obituary for Alderman & Mayor of Redcar, Charles (Charlie) Harris, who died as a result of a WW2 bombing raid in 1941. A bomb landed on the Zetland Club in Redcar, YNR, England on 21 Oct 1941 killing him and 14 others.

I think there could be one in 'The Cleveland Standard', but I'm open to suggestions.

I hope there's someone out there who could possibly help, as I need to find out what family members are stated in the Obituary, including any possible married name for his daughter Edna.

In anticipation and with thanks, Neil (in Australia)

Thanks for that link Supermoussi

I hadn't checked them yet. Nothing coming up under Dubourg or Du Bourg though. I'll have more of a play under some variations, but perhaps it's somewhere else. I wonder if it's a catholic baptism?

Cheers, Bonza
