Many thanks.
Yes that's the family and I have most of the Census info but the same old problem of going back pre 1841 .... for his parents etc.
He was apparently a skilled artist at the potteries.

Doh! How embarrassing! Yes of course you are right - and his father's name of course was also Peter!!
So taking a guess looking at FindMyPast His father married Hannah Johnson on 18 Dec 1801 and he died 2Q 1845 Madeley.

Thanks for your help, any thoughts as to how I might get further info please?

I Have found Peter Stephan in various Census going forward from 1841 giving his birth date as 1796 -1801, but I haven't found a birth record for him on FMPast.   Please can someone perhaps check another site.
My other query is how would I find out who his father was as there is no mention on the 1841 census.
Many thanks

Thanks MaxD and IMBER.

And thanks everyone for your help.  What looked like a useless piece of paper costing £3.50 with your help suddenly came alive with so much information.
Thoroughly appreciated.

Thank you. Again, you people are amazing and so helpful, thank you.
Just spent my £3.50 as you say no detail of individuals unless high ranks but description of war and conditions are detailed.
Happy to pass on a copy to my helpers if wanted.

Wow, thank you Philipsearching.
That's amazing being able to tell me that from just a few hieroglyphics !
I really thought I'd wasted £3.50

Thank you so much, if there's anywhere else I can search for more info I'd appreciate the details but it looks like you've covered it.

whilst searching for Sydney Pierce's details, census etc I came across a reference to Grenadier Guards and purchased Nat Archives WO 372/16/4544  amongst the various Pierces I found our man 16294 but I can't really understand what it means.  I attach the info and would be really grateful if anyone can decipher it or explain it please.
Many thanks.

Sadly no idea yet but guess it would have been a mother's maiden name passed on as a christian name to a child or children in the family.

Thanks again for thoughts and ideas - I do need them!
Like you I struggle to find more info on her.  I did find another marriage record to Lewis Duval with her name as Charlotte Melvill Vincent - which I guess sort of makes sense but using variations of her maiden name(s) I've not found her anywhere else.

I've found a couple of births for a Lewis Duval both in London area 1739 and 1774 the latter perhaps more likely and a possible will 1810 Ilfracombe Devon that might be worth following up.
Time just goes when you're searching :)
