Hi there. I was wondering if anyone would be able to make out the mother’s forename on this attached death certificate. The person writing it has made a mistake then scored out the name and it’s become a bit illegible.

Thanks,

Alan

Hi folks,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me. I've traced ancestors from Canada back to Scotland, but I'm struggling to find Scottish records for them.

In a Canadian 1901 census I've found James Miller (born 16 May 1852, Scotland). It says he arrived in Canada in 1872.

He married Julia McMillan on 9th Oct 1880 in Toronto, but I've found her on the 1861 Canadian census aged 1 and her father Robert McMillan, 29, Coachman was born in Scotland and his wife aged 27 was also born in Scotland.

Any information on either of these sides would be fantastic if anyone is able to help!

Regards,

Alan

Canada / James Miller and Julia McMillan Marriage (Toronto)

Hi folks,

I'm trying to find some information on Canadian relative of mine. The information I have so far is:

James Miller married Julia Maria Margaret McMillan on 9th July 1880 (Toronto).

James' parents as shown on the marriage certificate are John and Isabel Miller.
Julia's parents are shown as Robert and Anna McMillan.

I was hoping to find out any more information on these people and we know some relative form this line originated from Scotland so it would be great to find out that link too.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Oh my! That could well be a possibility. I’ll need to dig deeper and see.

Do you think it’s worth my trying to find death certificates for some of the names you found and see if the parents names match up?

Hi,

I've hit a brick wall in my attempts to find more ancestors and was wondering if anyone could help?

I have Catherine Bell's death certificate in New Ardrossan, County of Ayr (d. 10/5/1895) and her parents are shown as Archibald Bell and Mary McKenzie.

Is there any way of finding information and possible ancestors of Archibald and Mary?

Just managed to absorb all the information! Thanks again! I can’t wait to show my mum, Joyce Elder, this at the weekend!

She always said there was a story of one of the Elders who got some sort of award for doing something brave at a railway, or a railway accident over in Canada. It’s a long shot I know, but do you know of where I could look to try and find out more. I really have no more leads to go on unfortunately!
